My friends and I are heading out for the second weekend of mudfest. This will be my first time going, and I keep hearing really mixed things about it. Any tips you have, stuff you wish you'd brought, things you wish you'd done, etc? Also, any suggestions on how much money to take with you? Thanks!

Sorry I have had a few beers but how old are people here? Take as much as you are willing to spend. You know the amount you eat and drink so take enough cash for that. Everyone normally prepays for accommodation (btw the best thing for the mud fest is to get yourself a tent and crash on the beach).

If you have been in Korea for at least 3 months you should know that they bump up the prices for weekends and national holidays. Just do a search for a nice hotel on Haeundae beach during the week and compare it to the prices on the weekend.

Now for the tips. You need clothes, money and that is about it. The mud fest is a place like Daytona spring break. You dont need much. Just an appetite to drink and eat great food. And act the foreign fool like most of them do.

My tip is......DON'T GO!

You'll only end up wishing you'd stayed in Seoul.

I'm guessing moonman doesn't like to party. If you like to party, you'll have a lot of fun.

Tip: Have someone bring a bottle of clean water when you first get there. If you have no mud on you, people will go nuts getting you dirty. Mud + eyeballs + contact lenses + no clean hands/shirt to wipe off my face with = no fun. But then as soon as I cleaned my eyes out the rest of the weekend was great!

And careful with the drunken midnight swim. There are great whites off that beach...and they feed at night.

I love to party. I AM the party.

I just have more refined tastes.

What's more refined than drinking pitchers of Cass while covered in mud?!

Ah, OK, point taken.

Pack multiple ziplock bags or waterproof cases for you cell, camera, and wallet. They do sell good ones as well, but they do run out, so pack some just in case.

Also, bug spray!

Camping on the beach has go to be the worst thing you could do. Camping on any busy Korean beach is horrible. The noise from the people, noraebangs, and traffic won't help you sleep. If you party all night, how long will you sleep past 8am with the hot July sun on your tent and screaming kids running by? Do you want to leave all year gear on a beach unattended, or take it with you everywhere?

Definitely bug spray. If you have good stuff from home bring that. The stuff they sell in the convenience stores there just doesn't cut it. I speak from experience. Two years ago I got MAULED by the mogi...about 100 bites over my legs. I was miserable for 2 weeks until they all healed.

I am so amused by the anti-mudfest backlash. If you don't like it, don't go. Why complain about it so that people like the OP already have a negative feeling towards.

Mudfest is fun! Go with a group of friends. Share a room. Sleep on the floor of a room. Whatever. Hit the water and the mud in the day and walk around having a few beers at night. What's wrong with that?

I really think it's rude to be so anti-something and ruin it for people before they even go. Poor OP, he/she is going to go already jaded and then not have a good time because of it.

Mudfest = a beach, mud, beer, lots of nutty people, and generally a good time.

If you don't like the sounds of that, take the guy's advice and stay in Seoul enjoying the heat. Good times.
