Could anyone suggest a movie or tv show for 1st year high school students? I don't watch movies very often and I never watch tv, so I really don't know what would be good.

I showed my students Glee, episode 1. Episode 2 may be inappropriate, but the 1st one is fine.

Or, Supernatural episode 1 is a good one too.

It's that time of year, isn't it?

I showed my first and second year students the first 45 minutes of The Hurt Locker. They friggin loved it - but I teach all boys.

My first year classes (all girls) watched The Day After Tomorrow, Ratatouille, or Princess Diaries. Anything comedy, action, or horror will do.

Our school has Brokeback Mountain in the video library (amongst a dozen other inappropriate films)....I'd love to show that movie some time and then have the university complain. "Well, you guys picked it out."

I found a movie in the library which has a really violent and graphic sex scene that involves snorting cocaine and doing a stripper in the bathroom at a strip club (and all sorts of other graphic stuff)....I told the administration that this movie should be removed from the library as it was inappropriate for a Christian school. I am not Christian but I know that a lot of the parents would NOT be happy to know that the school endorsed this film.....the administration said "oh....ok".....it's still there.

Is it just a one off movie class? Or do you want to show videos on a regular basis?

There is a very nice video course called Extr@. You can find it for download (pirated of course) from several sites. There is also a work book and teachers book to go with it. It's About 4 neighbors in their teens/twenties. It's amusing and there are a few general story arcs over the course of the 30 episodes. Most of the middle school and high schools classes that I've show it to find it funny. It's a bit low budget and the humor is a bit juvenile but I think that's to appeal to the target audience.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll watch the trailers and pick something out. I'll be teaching a mix of boys and girls. I just wanted one movie for part of my summer camp.
