Can you top this one?:
20 class hours per week
2 office hours per day, Monday to Friday
7 weeks vacation
kids camps
2.0 Million, 3K housing allowance
teaching hours 9am to 9pm (6pm to 9pm continuing education, no extra pay)
Beat that! |

you actually get paid less and work more than a person working at a lower level.
but...the prestige? |

Oops, the housing allowance is 300K
A different uni conversation:
Them: Salary is x.
Me: But that's for a bachelors. I have a masters, so isn't it higher?
Them: Oh, yes, it's x+50,000won per month.
Wow a whole $50 for my two years work:) |

Yeah, not very good. But better than many kids academies, and the opportunity to move up to a better uni after a year.
If I could have had this job in my 1st year in Korea without even a year of exp. I would have taken it. That's it. |

| Well it sounds like you will only be required to be there 7 hours a day. Not the full 12 hours from 9-9. Each day might have a different schedule where you might have a few hours in the middle where you can go home or do something else. Still, LOW pay for a Uni. |

| I know plenty of people right now that are just coming over with master degrees that would take that job in a second. |

| Seems to me almost every college job I've seen this time around has 20 teaching hours a week (or more?) and 8 weeks vacation...many with 4-6. Certainly not the cae 2-3 years ago... |

Yeah I'm guessing it means you will be teaching between 9am and 9pm, not from 9am to 9pm. Otherwise you'd only be working 2 days a week to fill your hour quota.
Aside from that it sounds pretty good to me to be honest, pay isn't great but I'm guessing they're asking for less in the way of qualifications/experience than most unis, so it could be a great way to work your way towards better positions at other universities. |

| If you take this job you are insane. That is way to little money to accept for the time you are working. This is one reason why salaries are dropping across the board in all places. Cause any idiot with a B.A. are accepting them, while qualified teachers with experience are getting low-balled. Good luck with this job. |

It's not great for a uni job.
I would take it over a public school or hagwon job though. Seems to be similar pay and teaching hours to a public school, but with longer vacation and probably more freedom. The desk warming is limited to 2 hours a day too haha. I bet they don't make you stay there for precisely 2 hours 5 days a week either.
It would get some uni experience too which will be helpful if one wants to apply for a good uni job in the future. |

I turned them down, but they seemed shocked. Some moron will take it, as noted above.
To those who thought better than PS think again:
1. No bonus, no airfare.
2. Preparing mid-term and final exam.
3. Grading exams.
4. Dealing with student complaints.
20 hour teaching at a uni isn't like 20 hours at a PS, you have to prepare for those classes. 20 uni class hours would need more prep than 25 PS classes I'd bet. |

I'm CONTRACTED to have 20 class hours per week, but rarely work more than 12. I'm also CONTRACTED to have only 6 weeks vacation per year, but there are no students during the intersession months, so I get 10 weeks per semester.
Big difference between what's in the contract and what we actually receive. |

The 7 weeks vacation time would be nice, but pay is not very good for all the student loans you likely have. Then again, the situation in USA is so horrible, I think the foreign teacher market will soon be flooded with hordes of Americans. I know companies are recruiting them in some major cities now and getting people who otherwise never would have considered doing this or figured it a scam.
I've thought about getting an Masters but the reason I dont is everyone is trying to be so cheap nowdays, I just dont think Id ever recover the costs. |
