I have an iPod Classic (160 gig) and I can transfer music files to it with no problem. And I know that video files such as movie downloads/TV show downloads in .avi, .mpeg, .flv, etc. format (that are not already in .mov format) must first be converted to .mov/Quicktime/iPod format.

What is the best totally free/shareware program for doing this? I have downloaded 5-6 supposedly "free" format conversion programs but they are all "bait and switch" downloads (you have to actually buy the program, as it typically downloads only the first 3 minutes and then stops!)

Who has got the skinny on this?? Thanks!!!

VLC does it. Google for a guide.

Do know that this is a long process that takes up a lot of your CPU and Memory. Most take as long as the movie is (real time). Some maybe a bit quicker. I think you'll have more luck just trying to d/l movies in the mp4 format already.

I've used this program and it does work and it's straightforward and simple to use. I will agree with the statement that video conversion is a massive CPU hog.

I agree with the above posters. We will our iTouch and iPhone up while not needing the computer. Start the process before you head off to work, lunch, or bed.
