Does anyone know what changes have been made for sure?

I'm in Canada now, between jobs. I would like to get all the running around done before I go back to Korea in a couple weeks.

I see that a state/federal CBC is required for the Yanks. Is it the same for Canucks? I just got my CBC from the city police. Do I have to now go through the hassle of getting one from the RCMP? Two years ago I got one from the same policy station...no prob.

As for the diploma. I've got mine on me. Do I have to bring it to a Korean consulate before I head back to the ROK?

Anyone else currently going through this who knows what the proper process is?

Cheers

This should answer your question about the diploma.

Make 5 copies of your degree and pay the $4.40 each to get them apostilled from the consulate. Then you are good for a few years.

Get the RCMP check and make them give you a second copy of it with the original stamp on it. Then you are good for another 6 months.

I thought local checks from the police are fine as they do run it through the national database. As well, if you are in Korea, the RCMP won't issue the CBC with the VSS section ( I thought the VSS had to completed if you were Canadian).

Anyone have any idea on this, kind of confused..... Thanks:)

getting it done thru your local police is perfectly as like you said, the criminal search is done thru the national database. But im not sure about the VSS if you are applying for the E-2 Visa at the consulate. the Toronto Korean Consulate website simply states "Criminal Records Search" and no mention of the VSS, so I guess the regular CRS is fine.

The VSS requirement was dropped (because the RCMP wouldn't issue them for employment outside Canada or for a visa application) but otherwise, any CRC from any police force in Canada is National (checks the CPIC database) and is (unless they (K-immi) change their minds again) acceptable.

You need to take your degree and transcripts to the Korean consulate and get them to "certify" (not apostille) the copies. Get a few done and you are good for a few years.
