If an E-2 visa says "M" on it, is anything else required before going on a short trip elsewhere in Asia (to a country where no tourist visa is required)? They won't try to take away the alien card upon leaving, will they?

I'll just call/visit immigration if it's safest to do this...

IF you have an "M" under entries (you are American) AND you have NOT extended your stay beyond the original year then you are good to go.

If you are a belt and suspenders man (and worry about it) then you can check at the immigration office in the airport to confirm that you are good to go (on the date of your trip). They will either confirm that you are good to go or give you a re-entry permit if required (30k won if it is).

It's up to you to turn in your ARC when you leave if your finished working in Korea. They won't TRY to take your ARC, but if you dont have a valid re-entry permit, they will not allow you to work, you'll be designated as a tourist and you'll have to go through the entire visa process again when you return. Definitely, make sure what you have is valid before you leave.
