|
|
Hi,
I've been in Korea for 5 and a half years and in my present job for 4 and a half years.
I have a job offer to move to another uni for next semester.
Sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't had to do anything except extend my visa for the last 4 years so I'm unsure about current visa requirements for changing jobs...
Do I need to apply for a new E2 visa if I change jobs (I'll be around 5 months into my current contract come crunch time)?
If I do need a whole new application, how do I get a criminal record check from the UK when I haven't lived there for almost 6 years?
What else will I need?
I'd really appreciate any advice or info from someone with experience of doing this from the UK.
Thanks in advance. |

Yes, you'll need that and everything else that is required for a fresh visa app. |

Actually, you do not need a new visa. You can transfer your visa from your current employer which is much, much easier. You just need a document from your current employer and it takes one day at immigration. |

I thought that was only if you had completed more than half the contract? I'll be at 5 months. |

It's actually 75% of your contract, but immi is anything but consistent so they may, if you get the right agent at the right time, let you transfer - however, it's unlikely.
Exceptions to the 75% policy are switching from a hagwon to public school or if in a situation where your employer goes bankrupt, but even in the latter case, it's no guarantee they will allow the switch.
Since you will have been there only 5 months at the time you wish to transfer, it is VERY unlikely you will be granted a transfer. Get your new set of documents ready, you are going to need them. |

Actually, I've been there for 4.5 years. Does that change anything? |

Is there a Korean immigration service website which clearly lists the requirements for a new visa? |

You have to phone immigration and ask what to do. |

hikorea.go.kr is the website that you might find the details, but it's easier to call 1345 - that's immigration info service available in english |
