|
|
I'm leaving for Korea in a few weeks. Today I went to photocopy my visa to leave with my family in case of losing it abroad.
In a twist of irony, somewhere between making the copy at the library, and 2 other errand stops before home, I lost the photocopy.
Does anyone have any advice as to what, if anything, i should do about this?
I retraced my steps of course but no one had turned it in. I'm hoping someone found it and threw it out as garbage and isn't off trying to forge a passport... |

go back to the copier, and make a new one?
if you still have the original, no problem.... passports are supposedly difficult to forge (or maybe that's what they want us to think!), so you should be OK.
Unless there is a master forger in your area... then, sit back, and after a few years or being chased by the federales, the story will end up in Hollywood. this has Leonardo Dicaprio written all over it! |

thank you! That's what I thought too but it kind of freaked me out, so i needed someone to reassure me!
It would be kind of exciting to live the life of an international fugitive. Kind of a Mission Impossible type of thing. sweet. |

k I am missing something here
1) your visa is in your passport is it not, you cant lose the visa without losing the passport
2) your Visa is null and void if you leave the country, unless you have a re entry stamp,............which is in the passport.
Or are you some kind of special visa status where you get a seperate sheet for your visa, so the visa isnot in the passport?
In which case, as someone says, no worries, except for the fact that someone clearly has this information and could use it for bad purposes, not likely, but possible |

no it was just a photo copy of the page in my passport with the visa.
I know it's probably no big deal, but it made me nervous that my visa number (and passport number since that's on there) is floating around out there somewhere. Although the actual passport/visa is still in my posession. And, the copy didn't include the picture part of the passport, just the visa sticker/page. |

Would I be correct in guessing that you've never traveled abroad before?
If you're traveling, and especially if your working abroad, you're going to have to make plenty of copies of your passport, and sometimes even give people your passport for a few days. How often have you heard about passport fraud? Relax. No one is going to do anything with it. |

So again, my questions still stand, why even copy it at all? Your visa is in your passport, you cant lose it without losing your passport as well. And seeing as though your visa is null an void UNLESS you get a re-entry stamp in your passport then losing your passport would be the issue.
Lose your passport and your visa is null and void in either case
There is no point whatsoever in copying your visa.
Any YEs, Id be worried that your information is simply floating around out there as well. |

True dat.... the US always says to copy the two front pages of the book and keep on hand in an emergency, but a copy of the visa seems like overkill.....
or maybe that's what they want you to think! |

yes i have traveled abroad before. In fact I already have copies of my passport for myself and my family back home.
Having never worked abroad before, I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to have a copy of the visa as well. Couldn't hurt, right?
So of course i'm concerned the copy is out there. But my question is do i need to report it or anything?
Seems like a pretty straight-forward question to me.. |

Just something for mommy to worry about..... i think there is an over-involved mommy on the boards sometimes, maybe you could put yours in touch with her.....
Just what Korea needs.... a troop of American blackhawk parents against the hagwons and PSes of Korea...... the next fight of the century! |
