In the interest of not resurrecting a 3+ year old thread, I thought I'd start a new one, since new is always better than old. Especially with people!

So, Hi. I start on the 22nd in one of Pohang's Hagwons, and am seriously looking forward to getting the Hell out of my hometown. I like hiking and pretty girls, and I recently learned how to swing dance (east coast style, 'natch) because I felt I was not lethal enough on my feet. In addition to my many lethal kung-fu moves, I am now able to kill with sheer style alone.

This ability eventually landed me in some hot water with the fuzz when my street theater troupe wanted to recreate "West Side Story". Thirty people died, and an entire city block was leveled. I am hiding out under an assumed name, so don't tell nobody.

No, but in all seriousness I'm curious to learn what sort of chicanery this town gets up to. I am more than capable of generating my own fun-field, however.

Just a bump to see if anyone chimes in -- I am still in Pohang, but I am getting to be an old fart, set in my ways, so I don't get up to much chicanery, mischief, or even much derring-do these days.

What about antics? Festivities? Hoedowns? Impromptu dance numbers?

Dear hipsters-

I am but a humble law professor, but my wife and I (I'm 31, she's 26) are always looking for some new folks to meet up with in Pohang and this seems to be the place to check in. We're back in town on the 18th and would certainly be interested in some sort of get together. However, two bits of personal advice based upon my impressions after living there for a year:

1. Most expats hang out in the expat bars, of which there are only a few.

2. We're big time Pohang Steelers (soccer club) fans, which has been the only thing we've found that connects us in any way to the locals, even if the team itself doesn't seem to resonate all that much with said locals. By that I mean that having such a successful club in almost any other city in the world would be big news there. From what I can tell most people in Pohang exude a collective "eh" when it comes to the Steelers.

Anyways, I guess I'll keep my eye on this thread and see if more people are interested in meeting up in the next few weeks.

Hey all- I'm new to Korea and living/teaching in Hayang- tiny town just east of Daegu. I'm wicked interested in visiting Bogyeong-sa, mostly to hike Mt. Naeyeon and see "Waterfall Kingdom." Anyone hardy enough for a colder weather day of hiking? I'd love to get out in nature and meet some new friends. Weekends are my free time. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get ya my email. Peace! Laura

That's too bad! You should check out Aclipse recruiters, they were a huge help and super reliable.

Anyway, I'm going to be at Mindy's English Cafe on the evening of the 26th. If anyone wants to stop by for fun and company, that'd be rad.

I've been in Pohang since September 09... There is nothing wrong with Pohang but after six months I am thoroughly bored, just waiting to finish the year at this point.

There was an awesome live music club in Pohang I went to 3 years ago. It was downtown, near the beach - can't remember the name of it. Find out the name and check it out.
