Am I the only one to notice the downfall of GoGo's in Hongdae? Once upon a time that place was cool. It prided itself on playing good music (most of the time, mostly rock), a happy hour that lasted until 12am and no door fee. Now, stipper pole, 10k entrance fee and Miley Cyrus. Really. The last straw was the America F-yeah song that my 12 year old students sing. What the heck happened? I'm never going back.
Are there any good bars anymore is Seoul? The only one I like is Woodstock in Gangnam. Though the last time it was filled to the brim with meatheads. |

GoGo's has been going downhill for the past two years. IMO it stems from the influx of 18-21 year old army recruits that show up there (as well as a dozen other clubs in hongdae and beyond) that never used to get that far away from a base due to the curfews.
Bring back the early curfew american army base!
There are good places still out there, you just need to look! |

what are you talking about? that place has always sucked. but then again it all depends on your music taste and the point of your going out (hanging out with friends, trying to hook up with someone, etc). there are plenty of places in seoul that cater to all music tastes and styles. im sure youll find something suitable. |

I definately haven't been here long enough to be able to see the difference. I've liked gogo's since I've been here, but it has gotten very old after a while. I live in Bucheon and there are a number of bars within the bucheon/incheon area that I've found to be better than Seoul in nearly every way. In Songnae there is The Park and Rhythm and Blues. They are located right across from eachother which makes it nice. The only thing that kinda sucks about them is that the foreigner crowd is actually too big and people can tend to piss eachother off. Also, unfortunately it seems like the same people go there all the time. As for myself, I prefer mixing it up as much as possible. There is also Touchdown in Yeong-Su and Go bar at Inha University. I realize anyone not in the Incheon area could care less, but if you do live in Incheon and aren't familiar with these places, I recommend checking them out. |

I definitely agree there are too many American soldiers and the shite music (HipHop) on the 3rd floor attracts them.
Ever since 'TinPan' started a cover charge about 2 years ago, the baseball capped people started to come to Gogos. |

Gogo's is fine until about midnight and then it turns into TinPan. It has been like this for years though. No change that I am aware of. |

First time I was in TinPan, some dude started asking me questions and putting his hands in my pockets. I left promptly and haven't been back since.
Last weekend I was in GoGos and some dude started touching my ass. I left promptly and won't go back ever. |

If you want good gogo bars don't bother with Korea. Go to Nana Plaza in Bangkok or Walking street in Pattaya. I 've also heard some people who brag about Angeles city in the Phillipines. This is usually from the Saturday afternoon crowd at the Seoul pub.
Whatver you do don't go to the rip off Pinoy places in Dongducheon or Songtang. These places willl do nothing for you put burn a serious hole in your pocket. |

i stopped going once they started charing a cover. the same with janes groove and ff.
those places are the most run down ive ever seen. even after the re-decoration of gogo's, it still sucks.
i dont see the reason why i would pay a cover. as a girl you can enter tin pan for free. same music, same people, same atmosphere (=shitty).
so, why pay for something i dont like?
id rather hang out at places that dont charge and play some decent music.
but yeah, id have to agree.. its sad seeing hongdae going downhill that much. i hope they will see that this is driving the people away instead of getting them to go to their places.... |

I've been here for a while and it is true. Though gogo's is by far not the
only one. At one time Tin Pan was cool. And that is saying ALLOT.
One by one bars that were cool are mutating into this meat market,
Jersey shore/midwest frat party. Everyone wears baseball caps and
acts like they are at home instead of a foreign country.
Probably the end of the army curfew plays a role. But ESL teachers
are at fault too. Notice a trend lately? How many teachers have you run
across that are under 25? Too many. |

I really like the people that run R & B. So it pains me to say this. But
they have THE most annoying crowd. I went in there to watch the Korea
vs. Greece game. I expected a rowdy atmosphere but was blown away at how the teachers were acting. There was about 15 people with those horrible plastic horns, blowing the blowing the living shit out of them. Screaming TAE HAN MIN GUK!!! And it's like you guys aren't even Korean.
Another time I went in there for Sunday morning breakfast. It was maybe
11am. I was pretty hungover. I order my food, and as soon as I sit down.
They start BLASTING BOOTY RAP! So loud I can't hear myself think let alone the person next to me. And I mean it is SUNDAY!!! Half the place is hungover. I guess on weekend mornings they let some of the regulars
control the jukebox. So if you go there during that time. Expect to hear
THE SHITTIEST music blasted at full volume. |

If you're into classic rock, try Woodstock in Sinchon. It's on the same street as Beer O'Clock. It always plays classic rock and the sound quality is second to none.
And there are TWO Woodstock bars in Gangnam station, one on opposite sides of the main street. The one to go to is the one on the side of Uniqlo. |
