In general when do SMOE schools find out about their new NSET/ if the NSET will need housing or will find their own?

The reason I'm wondering is because when I came my school didn't provide me with anything other than my apartment. Obviously I have bought stuff for the apt (dishes/ silverware, fan, humidifier, ect...) and would like to leave it for the new NSET. But my school is telling me to get rid of all the stuff because
1- they don't know if the new teacher will need the apt or get housing on their own
2- if the teacher has already been here they will already have stuff
3- people have different tastes so the new person might not like my stuff

# 1 is a valid reason. #2 sort of valid but I know people who were here before and didn't have a lot of their own stuff because their previous school provided it for them. # 3 I think is a lame reason because personally I would rather have something than nothing and if I hated it then I could buy new stuff.

I want to know what other people think...
- Will I able to find out before I go if the new teacher is taking over my apt?
- If the new teacher is taking over the apt should I leave the stuff or get rid of it all? I could put it a box or something so if they don't want it it's easy to get rid of.

Thats a tough one. Witha hagwon it's easy cause you will likely be there when the new teacher arrives a week early. I would say that if you have a friend you trust to handle that would be fine or your head teacher if they are cool. let them know that you are leaving some stuff for the new teacher. someone probably knows more than me on this. If you are not taking it with you then just leave it hidden in your classroom and leave a note sealed for your teacher.

If you don't find out, let your friends go through the stuff.

Korean schools don't like new teachers communicating with their previous NET's - so I suspect you won't be meeting your new teacher - anytime soon.

Also, there is so much disorganisation in public schools - that your school may not be told that they're getting a new teacher until the last minute - and even if they're told, the school may not find accommodation for the new teacher until the day they arrive (or after).

Also, there's no guarantee that the new teacher will get your room/apartment/officetel.

I think that if you leave your stuff in your apartment - the landlord or your school will take it.

When I left my last school - I had a lottery of all my household items (iron, clothes, rice cooker, electric jug etc). The kids loved it - and I threw in heaps of booby prizes to keep it interesting.

Good luck.

Sell what you can.
Let your friends pick through whats left.
Leave the rest.

Unless it's something that's really expensive, don't be cheap and just leave it, or give it away.
