What are the years for Gen X and Y?

I like to think I'm on the cusp. Mostly because the younger Y folks tend to have entitlement issues. Of course, the Gen X sure are lazy!

Wink

I'd say people in my age range -2 or +3 years tend to be best. hahaha

Isn't Gen Y also the entitlement generation?

If so, I would say Gen X wins by a landslide but gets beaten hands down by the generation right before it.

That would be the millenials (entitlement generation). At least that's what Gen Y people tell me. Smile

And Gen X gets beaten by the baby boomers? We can thank the latter for a lot of the crap going on today.

I always found Boomers to be the supreme entitlement group.

Gen Y and Millenials are two names for the same group.

The rough age ranges for some generations:

Lost Generation: 1885-1900 (current ages: 109-125, i.e., probably dead) - famous people include Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and T.S. Eliot
Greatest Generation: 1901-1924 (current ages: 85-109) - famous people include JFK, George HW Bush, and Walter Cronkite
Silent Generation: 1929-1945 (current ages: 64-85) - famous people include MLK Jr., Elvis Presley, and John McCain
Baby Boomers: 1946-1960 (current ages: 49-64) - famous people include Al Gore, Robin Williams, and Michael Jackson
Generation X: 1961-1981 (current ages: 28-49) - famous people include Meg Ryan, Eminem, and Ashton Kutcher
Generation Y: 1982-1995 (current ages: 14-28 ) - famous people include Lady Gaga, Amanda Bynes, and Justin Bieber
Generation Z: 1996-2012 (current ages: newborn-14) - famous people include Abigail Breslin, Jaden Smith, and Elle Fanning
Generation Alpha: 2013-?

Generation X is known for:
-the "baby bust"; a significant drop in childbirth after the baby boom meant much more of these kids were only children or had fewer brothers and sisters. They also got more individualized treatment in school.
-sex before marriage
-being less religious than their parents
-being a "nomad" generation - they were children during a spiritual awakening (the 60's and 70's)
-personality traits: pragmatic, perceptive, savvy, amoral, focused on money
-being the MTV generation

Generation Y is known for:
-the "baby boom echo" - although much smaller than the original boom
-increased use of communication technology (cell phones, internet) in addition to keeping in touch with parents more frequently
-being the Peter Pan generation: we've delayed adulthood by staying in school longer, moving back in with our parents, marrying later, etc. (primarily due to financial reasons)
-being more likely to define adulthood by character traits rather than rites of passage
-rejecting the counterculture of the Boomers and Gen Xers - i.e., Gen Y is more commercialized and peer-oriented (cell phones, Facebook, YouTube, internet memes, flash mobbing, blogging, etc.)
-being "trophy kids", i.e., everyone gets a trophy, whether you deserve it or not. This is where the "entitlement generation" comes from. In the workforce, Gen Y wants to shape their jobs to fit their lives rather than the other way around.
-Personality traits: desiring feedback, self-reliant, decision-making, assertive

So...hope this helped. Carry on. ^^
