Yeah so I've been very careful about checking for my keys all year before I leave my apartment. Unfortunately what I thought was my keys turned out to be a pocket full of loose change.

How do I get my door open? Keys are inside. Should I just go to the police office in town and try to find help there? This is so lame on my part, but I also didn't bring my cellphone with me which happens to have the numbers of my coworkers on it, including my recruiter.

To top it off my email address back in the states chose today to expire so I can't find the number to call through them either. I had backed up all the emails weeks ago to my computer. The one in my apartment.

If this happened in the states I would go to the service desk at the base of the building or whatever the equivalent was. This is a small complex though so the office is closed. Suggestions?

check your door handle... sometimes there's a locksmith's number on a sticker there.

Thats a good idea except I can't remember ever seeing such a sticker. I'll wait around a bit and then go check it out on my way to another pc bang.

I really hate pc bangs where people constantly look over your shoulder (specifically the operator). He sat down at the computer next to me and played with it a bit while stealing glances at my screen. The same operator is smoking in the non-smoking section.

Should also mention it is an electric lock, the type with what I assume is some sort of magnetic resonance key.

What floor are you on? If you can reach a window- B&E. And I don't mean bacon and eggs.

It's your own place. Just be ready to call the landlord ASAP.

Act natural and innocent. Remember you are doing nothing wrong.

I would need a ladder. My window is actually open but, short of a ladder or grappling hook, I am out of luck.

My apartment is on the third floor of a very square concrete building. Otherise I would totally B&E: I love bacon and eggs. So far it is looking like I have to wait until morning for the chicks in the office at the base of the building to show up.

My apartment is part of a small complex. Three building adjacent, each floor has four apartments with 3 floors total. Ground floor is a parking lot with a main entrance. So while I am only on the second floor of apartments, I am on the actual third floor.

Aside from the parkinglot there is also a small office on the ground level. I know Monday through Saturday there are two women in there who manage the affairs of the complex. I've never noticed them, one way or another, on Sunday though. Do those types typically show up on Sunday? Am I waiting for nothing?

I would call a locksmith as well. I doubt waiting will solve the problem, 'cause who knows whether those ladies will show up. Maybe the operator of the PC Bang can give you the number for a locksmith.

Good luck!

Haha, Funny. I do this constantly. Not yet in Korea, actually, since I need the key to lock it on the outside - old fashioned I know - But I'm terrible for this kinda crap.

I lost my apartment key once or twice in Korea. Locksmith comes. They might try to charge you more than they should. Think I paid 25,000, but they guy tried to charge me 50. Can't remember, but he tried to charge me more. You'll probably pay 35 or 40. Oh well.

Well the local police totally rock. I finally walked down to the station around 8:00AM and explained my problem to them (lots of hand waving, finger drawing etc).

They drove me back to my place and, in the end, climbed a ladder and unlocked the door for me. I'm about to head out to order some pizza delivered to the barracks. Good or bad idea? Would be the proper thing to do in the states but I'm not sure here.

I offered to take them out to breakfast, but I'm not sure they understood. They wouldn't take any money either so I gave them a very deep bow and another thank you to express my gratitude. I can't speak Korea, unfortunately.

Good Idea. If you're in a small town you're set for your stay after that. Be careful they might get too friendly with you and next thing you know you're on their volleyball team/boozing team.
