I read that the Nexus One is coming to Korea soon. Does anyone have any info? I am on the KT network so if I buy it outright it should be OK. Will it be SIM locked to Korea though? |

I picked one up yesterday at kt square in gwanghwamun. they had some in stock. He told me theres two different versions, one with the oled screen and one without, so be on the lookout for that if it matters to you. I think that has to do with the oled shortage that's been going on the Internet news for a little while. I paid like 30k for the signing/sim fee and 7k per month extra for the phone on 2 year contract. He did tell me that it's sim locked and there's a hefty fee for unlocking it but didn't tell me how much. Great phone. You can type in Korean and English, and most menus can be changed to English. And it does come with a variant of android 2.2 pre-installed, so upgrading isn't necessary. |

The replacement LCDs are meant to be as good, if not better than the OLEDs.
The HTC Desire is actually the same as the N1. They are made by the same company. The Desire has slightly more RAM though. Having Android 2.2 pre-installed is a huge boon. Who knows when the Desire is getting the upgrade? |

I am not interested if it is SIM locked. I thought Google were releasing this phone around the world unlocked. Maybe a Korean cellphone operator would never accept that
Do you remember how much it was without a contract? I am on an E-2 and have only a few months left. So there is no way I can buy it discounted. |

This is the phone I'm thinking of getting because I heard KT are being nicer to E-2 holders...has anyone got this phone on an E-2? How much did it cost? |

So I went to olleh square and asked about the N1.
With an E2 we need to buy the phone outright for 485,600. They then will give you a discount on your service depending on what level you want.
For instance if you wanted the i-medium plan the normal cost is 65,000 but you get a discount of 22,000 a month. So your bill would only be 43,000.
Check it here http://cs.show.co.kr/eng/EngSmartSponsor.jsp

How about with no plan as I have just 3 months left in Korea and that won't be enough to please them I am sure? Is it still 485,600 won? |

But how long are you stuck on contract for and what is the cancellation penalty? I would gather it's quite steep. Most smartphones are about 700,000 to over 1,000,000 won to "buy outright". |

I went to the store in Gwanghwamun yesterday and they told me that even if I paid the 700K won for the phone, I would still have to be on a 2-year contract. That seems ridiculous to me. Then I went to another store and they tried to charge me even more for the phone.
I could have someone else put the phone in their name, but it doesn't really make sense to me. Every English article I have read about the Nexus One coming to Korea said that it would be available off-contract for 700k.
Has anyone managed to actually get a Nexus One off-contract? |

I am not in Seoul but a store agreed yesterday to sell off contract I think (could be lost in translation) but I can't be sure that this phone will work back home even though all Nexus Ones are meant to be unlocked. |
