If there are spots open.....did you have similar grammatical gaffs on your resume? Perhaps, like the Transformers, there is more than meets the eye?

So if people came round to your house, would you say 'there's some beers in the fridge' or 'there are some beers in the fridge? The first one is pretty widely used in spoken English. The accepted language of internet forums is generally an informal spoken style, no?

He's not the type of guy who usually tries to correct people's grammar. Neither am I actually, but sometimes I can't resist.

and why do we recite at a play and play at a recital.

Why is a house burning down as it's burning up

and why are fat chance and slim chance the same, but wise man and wise guy opposites.

And why does flammable and imflammable mean the same thing?

Because English is stupid boys and girls.

No....I am not usually the type (aside from the obvious fact that every person's job on this forum requires that they do so). I am the same as edwardcatflap, it all depends on the situation whether or not I do or don't.

In this case it was due to the irony, that you're complaining about being put on a waiting list for an English teaching job, yet make a pretty major grammatical error in the course of your complaint.

To edwardcatflap.....I agree that there are certain situations where colloquial English supersedes what is grammatically correct. I honestly would say "there are some apples in the fridge" but that's beside the point. There are other situations where I use phrases that are grammatically incorrect, so in that respect you have a point. However, what we say when we're on the couch with our mates is quite different than what we say in public....if I tell my buddy "I ain't gonna do that", this doesn't alter his personal opinion of me, but if I were to speak in this manner to a complete stranger I would certainly come off as being an uneducated buffoon.
