Decor/vibe can be festive or solemn/romantic. It's my girlfiend's birthday. I'd prefer someplace not in Itaewon. Looking to spend under 100,000W.

Anyone have any good experiences they'd like to share?

She's pretty open. I'm thinking someplace we're not used to, but nothing too weird. No Korean, no bar food. The rest is fair game.

Cornerstone at the Seoul Park Hyatt. Best meal ever. So romantic...

There is a good Turkish restaurant in Hyehwa-dong. I think it is called Istanbul something... Anyways, the lighting is just right for a romantic dinner there.

Ciccone- how much does a decent dinner at the Cornerstone run?

What about that restaurant on top of some tower? Has a great view and whatnot...?? What's the deal there?

The tower you're thinking of is Top Cloud. The views are great and it's very nice, but I thought the food was sub par for the price.

I recently took my wife to Clock 16, the newer restaurant on the 16th floor at the Walkerhill Sheraton. The food was exceptional, and the view of the sunset over the Han River was wonderful. However, it will set you back at least 250,000-300,000 for a nice dinner and a bottle of wine.

For something a bit more reasonable, I've always been a fan of Wood & Brick. I'm partial to the one over by Samcheon-dong. It might save you a little cash as well.

Decent dinner with a few glasses of wine and dessert, for two? Maybe between 150-200$. It's very nice and the food is amazing.

I'd also check out the Sinsa neighborhood. Can't think of any specific restaurants off the top of my head, but there's a street filled with great restaurants. They have French, Italian, Japanese and other types of restaurants.

Just bumping this on a Sunday night, in case anyone sees it and feels like helping a brotha out.

At the moment I'm going for fun/festive (read: cheap) instead of fancy/formal. Anyone else care to chime in??

Go with seonsengnimble's suggestion then. It's hard to go wrong with Garosu-gil.

neither are very romantic, but they are great restaurants that fit your budget:

Jackie's Kitchen in Mokdong. It is Jackie Chan's Chinese food place. The food is exceptional and it is small and somewhat quite. Make a reservation.

To-Dai in Myeongdong (think there is one somewhere else in seoul as well):
Huge restaurant, so not romantic, but if you like seafood, it is very good. It is buffet style asian seafood, with an emphasis on sushi.

+1 to the Sinsa recommendation. Chicks love all those boutique shops and fancy ethnic restaurants.

Another place i went recently which was a hit was a nice 5/7 course restaurant on a boat on the Han.. take a taxi from express bus terminal and it's right on the river. Sorry i can't remember the name, but good food and a nice view of the city and river. The nearby bridge had a light show as well.

Seorae Maul has some nice places. I like La Tourville for brunch but there's several places around there.

+1 Sinsa. If you want an enjoyable birthday without feeling under-dressed our out've pocket.
