Hi,
Was wondering if getting a cavity fixed is covered under insurance?
If not, is any dental work covered?
Thanks! |

Yes, a basic drill and fill should cost you about 3500 won at your local dentist or the dentist in the small, local hospital.

In addition to what ttompatz said, I had a friend who got the special white fillings and she said it cost her 50,000 won per tooth. But that's a special kind of filling - if you go with the regular silver ones it's much, much cheaper. |

My white fillings cost 90k each, but it was an English-speaking office.
I recommend white, though. Metal ones have been known to leak mercury, years later, and often need replacing. Also, they need to make a larger hole to fit that type of filling. White ones can be smaller, as they bond to the tooth, actually making the tooth stronger.
I had my metal one replaced, but, as they had to make the hole larger for the metal to grip, it had to be replaced with a white inlay. That cost about 450k. |

Thanks for that info!
I got quoted 100,000won for a resin (white) filling on my wisdom tooth. This is at a Korean dentist. I don't want the silver ones, cause all my other dental work has been done with resin (in Canada), but I definitely didn't expect it to be so expensive.
Definitely will get another quote though... |

I need to apply for Canadian citizenship. It's around $200 for resin in L.A. |

My friend got her 50,000 won white fillings at an English-speaking Dental clinic in Mok-dong. His name is Dr. Choi. I have seen other foreigners visit his office although I have not been there personally. (I will go soon, though). PM me if you want his number and I'll get it for you. |

I got a wisdom tooth out for 35k won - AMAZING. In the states its 300-400. My advice, get all dental work done in Korea because its cheap and clean by western standards. |

Really? I got my top two wisdom yanked for 10K a pop. Though, mine were fully crested (or whatever the term is for when they are showing fully) and so it was about a 10 minutes job, just anesthetic, yank, clean up.
I also got two resins for 30K a pop an two silver replacements in my molars for about 15K each. If you are interested, it was at Michigan Dental in Gaya district, Busan, same building as O'Blarney's pub. His English was passable and at no point did it seem like sketchy street medicine either. |

Here's what Google Maps says about Dr. Choi's office in Mok-dong:
Clinic Name: 최영규치과의원 (Choi Yeon Gyu Dental Clinic)
서울특별시 양천구 목동 907-17
Mok-dong 907-17, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The nearest Subway Station is Omokgyo Station on Line 5. The building has an Ediya Coffee and a Mr. Nice Guy Barber Shop near the front door. It is next door to a building called "Hyundai World Tower".
Phone Number: 02-2642-6250
Once again, I have not visited this dentist before but co-workers have and I've heard no complaints. I can not testify to how well he speaks English, I just know he does.
Good luck! |

This is good info as the prices for resin fillings seem to vary wildly. I got a resin filling out in Garak Market for over 100k last summer. And that was a discounted price because the dentist was friends with my gf's mother. I've got a mouth full of cavities and am desperately searching the web for cheap fillings. Keep this alive with more suggestions! The langauge requriement is not that important to me. |
