Finally got my August vacation time confirmed on paper 2 days ago that starts in just 10 days and I need to take a break to go enjoy being a tourist in the tropics after playing weekend tourist in Korea for about 6 months.

Any of you find a bargain on a flight you recently purchased to go in the next week or two? Thanks in advance if you can tell us last minute planners where to turn to for a backpacker special.

I posted this 3 days ago with 79 views so far. Anyone? Guess the people I'm wanting to hear from are either already on vacation or aren't posting. Yesterday, it took a Korean travel agent 15 minutes of busy keyboarding to tell me she might call me back today about a flight to Bangkok. It's 699,000 for Bangkok and 930,000 for Denpasar, but securing the seat is tough where she's trying to see if one becomes available, because all the seats on good flights booked out, but many aren't actually sold due to bookings blocking them out not being paid yet. These are on Thai, Korean, Asiana, and Garuda airways, but the sites like Orbitz do have flights though China Southern and Malaysian readily available at the click of a mouse though bad schedules with long layovers.

Check online at Jin Air (use explorer not firefox). It is hot or miss with them as your dates may be sold out. And their prices do go sky high for peak season. Still, direct flights to Bangkok.

i've been looking online (kayak.com, specifically), and i've noticed that, while there are seats to be had, it IS expensive in keeping with the busy season.

that said, i got to cambodia last year for around W660,000 - yet for the same dates this year kayak.com is asking twice the amount.

crazy stuff.

I just seen Siem Reap for $599 on Orbitz on China Southern airlines. Terribly long lay over times though requiring 30 hours to get there and 17 return. The only somewhat reasonable deals I'm seeing are on China Eastern and China Southern airlines requiring long layovers for most destinations which scored low reviews for issues with canceled flights causing unexpected long boring lay overs in China. I'd take a scheduled 23 hour layover in Guangzou if allowed to leave the airport without paying $140 for a tourist visa. A whopping $1015 for direct Korean Air flight.

I visited 3 travel agents in Seoul yesterday. As much as they tried, they couldn't do anything when I asked for quotes to Bangkok, Denpasar, and Kuala Lumpur. One was even going to call an airline to see if a seat could be taken off a wait list, but will have to wait until tomorrow when the airline office is open. They do this stuff manually here using Unix systems and phones so it's complex, tedious, and time consuming. Summer has to be the worst time for travel unless planning about 2 months in advance. If I could, I'd save my vacation time for Fall or Winter and just work the whole Summer.

Not a problem to get an air ticket today by calling the real Marco Polo in Itaewon and then transferring money to his account. I got round trip to Bangkok from Seoul and round trip from Bangkok to Yangon on Thai Airways for 890,000 won to enjoy a 16 day trip leaving this Friday. Yippee!!! I'm so excited.

Marco is a great guy by the way. I would highly recommend trying him first when you need something. He speaks English fluently, has taken hundreds of international trips over the last 30 years, and is awesomely smart. There's no problem having a conversation and your needs understood here like commonly encountered elsewhere.
