My public school have told me that I can look for a new apartment at the end of August. But I've only been here for less than a month, so my Korean is almost non-existent.

I live in Busan (Gaegeum) and I've been told I have W5 million key money, and W400,000/month.

Do you think I can get an OK place for this much? Where should I be looking for listings?

My co-teacher said, she will help me, but if I want a new place, I think the onus is on me.

Cheers.

Pick a neighborhood or two where you wouldn't mind living. Presumably somewhere convenient to get to your place of work.....

.....then you should easily be able to find the estate agents in that neighborhood. They're everywhere......look in the window for something suitable......or even try speaking English to the estate agent.....you might get lucky.

Or use your co-worker to talk to the estate agent and ask what he has for your budget.

Depending on how nice (or not nice!) the neighborhood is, I'd say your budget should get you something.

Here are the steps I took when apartment hunting. Some of the links will not be valid because you're in busan but the others do list housing in other cities besides seoul

If I felt comfortable about it, I would ask for W10,000 deposit and 500k+ a month. Even if you're new...

Anyways good luck.

So I started looking at a few places last night, and now my school are getting all pissy, telling me maybe I should stay in my horrible damp humid apartment forever.

I should stay firm and demand a new place right?
