Any other US citizens here in Korea embarrased/upset by the show of force going on here now? Aircraft carriers, Hillary, Bill Gates, etc. Such a financial waste; seems to me that the money could be spent on things to benefit US citizens better. |

Nope. What embarrasses me is asinine comments about a joint military exercise of two allies. |

The norks just sank a South Korean warship and killed some of her crew. Instead of declaring a war, or taking military action, BO used this opportunity to make a show of strength, to remind the norks what they face. An elegant solution to the problem of how to respond, with nobody dying. I call that a pretty good move. |

....except for 46 sailors.
I'd call it a victory for NK. They just learned they can get away with anything and the worst that will happen is "sabre-rattling". |

An arguably proportional response might be retaliation. But instead, the Americans and South Koreans undertake military joint exercises, which are not offensive in nature, and this upsets/embarasses you? Or do you think its unreasonable that at this point and time, the Americans and South Koreans want to demonstrate solidarity and the ability to defend the peninsula? I mean, there are only 50 million Koreans at stake, not to mention the handful of foreigners who live in Korea! Korea is only the 11th largest economy in the world!

I agree. I am proud of the tone of Obama's and Lee's response on this. As an American, I'm finally so glad to have someone representing us on the world stage with a combination of balance, resolve, and proportion. |

Here we go again..
Pressure from the US and the rest of the international community and another threat from NK..
North Korea promises a physical response to the sanctions and drill demonstrations..
It is going to have to have to fulfill it's promise this time I think to be feared again.....
So, when is this thing going to kick off!!?? |

It's not the most pleasant response, flexing our muscles to possibly provoke a war. But I'm hard pressed to think of better one. North Korea and China still have serious doubts that the evidence points to North Korea for the sinking of the Cheonan--we need to work that out so it's undeniable. |

I can't think of any better way to show China and North Korea who the boss is.
Personally, I'd prefer to have the GW Aircraft Carrier group parked outside of Incheon, with their gun batteries and tomahawk missles all within range of vital targets in NK and China. |

"The norks just sank a South Korean warship and killed some of her crew."
maybe.
"I'm finally so glad to have someone representing us on the world stage with a combination of balance, resolve, and proportion."
Who?

I suppose the recent presence is really the only way to give people the perception of a 'we're not gonna take it' attitude. I understand the move. |
