learning this about myself has made a big difference in how i live, big picture and small. several crackhead decisions i have made in life can be directly attributed to me living in denial of my nature as an HSP. i take much better care of myself now. maybe this will be helpful to others, as well.[/url]

It's not a disorder. Although abbreviating it and labeling it does make it sound like one. Highly sensitive individuals often follow an artistic and creative career pathway. They are prone to depression and often quite fragile. Positives include being perceptive and thoughtful, intellectual and creative. Negatives include being psychologically fragile, painfully shy, extremely introverted, socially inept, self-absorbed, and thin skinned. However, these negatives can be overcome through sheer will power and cognitive exertion.

for me it's like i have ears all over my skin. and everything has a really loud vibration in this world. you are right Gepkik that cognitive exertion is important. it's essential in order to process and master stimuli vs drowning in it. it's why i prefer working with children. the hemispheres of the brain are not fully connected in young human beings. once that process is complete it means the birth of the treasured sense of individual self, but the death of innocence and magic. the mental filing system is then in place and the obsessive mind activity of judging and categorizing takes over and there is almost no going back.

thanks for your empathic explanation, too, Gepkik. and of course i'm not surprised at the immediate accusatory comments. it's very taboo to admit sensitivity in most human societies. it makes most people, especially type A and/or extreme alpha personalities-- whose brains are particularly wired for rigid judging and categorizing-- very uncomfortable because it's immediately interpreted as a dangerous form of weakness. and evolutionarily speaking, this makes sense as it's their job as tribal chiefs to punish those who display weakness, due to the deeply embedded primitive fear that weak tribal members will bring punishment by the capricious gods upon the whole tribe.

much better to have a fondness to HRA..... though it's best as a shared diagnosis, if ya know what I mean... Wink

I hope you don't take any medication to numb the feelings your disorder. Being sensitive is a blessing not a curse. I work in a field where I can use my sensitivity to be able to diagnose my patients. I can literally feel their pain and therefore know what is wrong and what to do to help them. It is a bummer sometimes being so sensitive but we do experience our life through our senses so the more sensitive we are the more alive we are as well.
