Has anyone in Korea spent up to 2 years working on either of these hard to earn Diplomas, which are 2nd only to an accredited MA in TESOL? They end with a capstone of demo teaching for a few weeks in a foreign country, with most locations in Europe. Any thoughts or feedback?
Oh, and I know someone will say, "Just get an MA in TESOL, dude." Well, I'm not interested in paying 5 figures, let alone going in debt 5 figures at the moment. I just want to be a better teacher and get beyond role play, gap fill pair work, reading and repeating, power points, simple listening, and the usual stuff we all print out from the internet somewhere or type up in between classes. |

Take 3 months off, head for Thailand and do your DELTA in the classroom.
Cost is the same (living is cheap) and it is still awarded by Cambridge U.

| Sounds like you want out of teaching then. I hear there are good jobs in upstate New York where you can be a cop for $50,000 a year and watch white trash battle it out in court over spilled coffee. |

+1. Everyone I know who's done a DELTA and an MA TESOL, myself included, will tell you the DELTA's much more useful for making you a better teacher. I did mine in Eastern Europe, while teaching adults full time over 6 months. It was tough. |

| I'm pretty sure you can't do it in Korea unless you work for the British Council. |

| Can you actually do the DELTA in Thailand in 3 consecutive months? Something tells me that that is probably unlikely. I'd like it to be true as I'd love to do the DELTA just for the fun of it--especially for the practicum. You'd probably have to work in Thailand and complete the DELTA over a longer period of time--and that means work in Bangkok. And the distance DELTA is predicated on the ability of finding a satisfactory employer with the right qualifications. Not as easy as it sounds--especially in Asia. |
