I am going to Thailand and i am seeing advice for exchanging currency.

Is it better if I exchange for US dollars and then Baht in Thailand? Or just do straight won for baht?
I just don't know how good an idea it is to exchange for USD when the won is low.

Does KEB give Baht exchanges at local banks?

What do most people do?

Thanks.

I exchange won for baht at the airport currency exchange counter. I hear it's about the best rate you'll get.

Won/dollar/baht is (substantially) no different than won/baht.

Buy a few thousand baht in the airport in Korea (so you have local currency when you land). Get the smallest bills you can, 100baht notes are best if you can get them. It is tough to get change for b500 and most people won't even take a b1000 note (outside of the hotels and malls).

Get the rest of your travel money in US$.

$1000 is only 10 banknotes ($100's). Doesn't take a lot of room in your pocket and it is easy to exchange dollars to baht in Thailand.

If you head up toward Kanchanaburi / Suphan buri (bridge on the river Kwai) be sure to pop in for coffee.

About 1/2 the time... yes... 90km northwest of BKK. I'll be here until Oct.

The other 1/2 time is split between consulting in Korea (2 different POE's) and our house in the Philippines.
