"something needing work or something with a bit of character" will eventually end up on bobaedream sooner or later.
currently no 240 available though, here's the link to volvos on sale.

(don't click the link, copy and paste)
select the years in the combo box next to 'Rubber' if you're into old cars.
hope this helps. |

That's great cheers, I've been hovering over the daum blogs and found two advertisements alright so may make a move on either of them. The other option is importing something I guess, I remember meeting a man on my last trip home who had an MG over here, at the time he told me it was the only one in Korea. It's not too difficult to believe given the scarcity of old metal on Korean roads. I think he was a George too come to think of it.
I believe he imported from the states but had owned the car at least 6 months prior to shipping having built the thing himself. I'd love an old 242 turbo but owning it and proving I'd ran it for 6 months prior to importation to Korea would be impossible.

Classic as in what....non korean cars?
I don't know of any korean car that would be considered classic by classic car aficionados.
If you plan to spend many years in korea....I suppose importing a classic is an option...but then parts..... |

Sorry guys!!!
It's been a while since I was on dave's -
To answer your questions :
Classic as in non-Korean for sure - they don't hold onto old cars here unless they are import ones it seems and the only thing worth noting is the Kia elan which is a bit too modern for me.
A few things have caught my eye and yes getting parts will be interesting for the most part but I have a daily driver avante to take the main abuse.
Ideally I'm looking for something with a bit of style , not a huge engine and something for which parts are cheap and obtainable either in Europe or the US. I'm here for a long while all going well for study and work.
My understanding of importation is limited - I've found information which necessitates prior ownership and proof of running the vehicle for a period of up to a year before import, variances in tax due etc etc
All told I don't have the cash to not know and just blunder into it and be left with a huge customs/tax bill hence why sourcing here is preferable thus far. I can go in with my eyes relatively open.
Another thing is emissions - sourcing an EU car, at least in Ireland means it's exempt from road cert tests each year, meaning that it doesn't need an emissions test. Here my understanding is it would need an emissions test yearly to be on the road.
The two cars below represent where I'd like to be , late model years but a final evolution of a classic design, both have no prices and the advertisements are worded to suggest comparative rarity over the norm so I'm expecting premium prices. They like most import cars have been advertised a while so no real rush either.

Had I not lost the details of that guy I met on that flight home last year that had done all this importation stuff before for his own classic I'd be away in a hack and able to pick someone's brains who had actually imported a classic. I'm just not able to commit to it without knowing all the facts.
Is there any specific information on importation of classics available ? |
