| My husband and I are leaving for South Korea shortly on an E2 Visa...the contract is only for 6 months and airfare isn't provided. We want to stay in Korea after the 6 months to get a better job but do we have to fly back to America after the 6 months and reapply for a visa with the Korean cunsultant AGAIN? Or can we find another job after the 6 months and not go back to America? If we have to fly back to America we are thinking about waiting for a better job to open up. Please send me your advice! |

Honestly, I don't know how you were able to obtain a 6 month E2 visa. I was pretty sure those were one year deals. Six month contracts are normally problematic and (I think) even illegal. It's normally straight one year deals.
In short, you probably won't be able to do that. |

6 month contracts are legal although, like yours, they usually provide no airfare or 1/2 airfare.
After your 6 month contract you should be able to obtain a new visa for another job with a visa run to Japan. It might also be possible to transfer your visa to a new job if you can get a release letter from your first school. You should try to include a release letter in your contract, to be provided to you when you finish your 6 month job.
You will need to meet all the new requirements for documents for your second job. |

According to what I was told by Jason from Ask Now, you need at least 9 months teaching in Korea in order to do a Japan visa run. Otherwise you need to get it done in your home country as if you were applying for a visa for the first time. |
