As the title suggests, I am looking for travel insurance for Canadian non-residents for a year-long trip I am planning. I usually go through World Nomads for my travel insurance, but I recently found out that they cannot provide insurance for Canadians who do not have provincial health insurance. They also cannot add or remove any coverage, so getting travel insurance through them and health insurance through another agency is an impossibility. As of now I have have found health insurance for Canadian expatriates that costs about $800/year, but I'm having a very difficult time finding the travel-end...especially backpackers insurance.
The trip I am taking will take me through most of SE Asia, Southwestern China, Nepal, and India.
Does anyone know of any flexible insurance providers for this type of trip/situation? Was anyone in a similar position? Thoughts?
Thanks very much. |

I guess a broader question would be: Where have you bought theft or damage insurance for your personal effects while traveling?
I sorted out the health insurance end of it, through TIC underwritten by the co-operators. It's geared for Canadian expats abroad or returning to Canada, or non-Canadians waiting to get residency in Canada.
Please someone throw me a bone here! |
