|
|
| We're going back to Canada with our dog and we need to find a kennel for her. We've been to tons of places and they only have the small hard type or soft bags. We're looking for a medium sized hard kennel. Does anyone know where we could find one? |

| Ask your vet or local pet shop if they can order one for you. Friend had to make an emergency return to Canada a few weeks ago, and the vet in our little town of 40,000 got a medium-sized airline-approved pet carrier in for her in a matter of days. |

I just had a 30 lb mutt (well, actually its a pretty damn pricey Romanian Sheperd) flown in from Europe in one of those things.
If interested I can mail you a pic.
Oh yeah, just so you know - I ain't the freakin' Red Cross so this little puppy (pun intended) will cost you a cool 75,000 Korean bones (won)

If all else fails, check with your carrier, they will generally be able to provide suitable transport containers for pets. |

| Seoultrader - Thx for the offer man but our dog would probably see that kennel as a palace. You see she is a 2.5kg Yorkie. We just want a kennel that will be big enough for her not to have to lay in her own sh*t for the 12 hour flight. Perhaps we'll check with our vet. |

an alternative to a kennel is to take the dog to a restuarand and have them brew up a nice dog stew that way you can take it back as carry on
Sick I know the devil made me do it |

Honestly...we want that but it is not possible. Our dog (though she is a Yorkie weighing in at just over 2kg's) cannot be carry-on because she is 3cm to high. Air Canada regulations stipulate that the kennel, "...must be big enough to allow the animal to stand, turn around and lie down comfortably..." Maximum dimensions allowable carry-on kennel - LxWxH - 55cmx40cmx23cm. Sucks but our dog is just too tall to meet the requirements. And I use "too tall" loosely...she's a fricken yorkie...a glorified rat...man we love her...but we have no choice...cargo it is...to everyone else we found a kennel for our dog. Had our vet order one in of the appropriate size. Thanks for your replies (except maybe the guy who said we could eat her...dude you seen yorkies...wouldn't even be an a healthy snack )!

Rue, you MUST meet airline standards. Most, if not all, require that your kennel have ample room (for canine to turn around comfortably in, and be able to sit without having to hunch over), and have screws and clamps for security. Also, 'Live Animal' stickers are needed, and it must be (if I recall correctly) made of hard plastic or metal <plastic is better, in my opinion>. Soft bags are only acceptable if you bring your dog on board (coach).
Where, have your vet find one. They'll have contact numbers that will inform them of the required kennel for each airline, and the vet will order it for you.
Make sure you register your dog with the airline early, as some only allow a certain amount of live animals per transport....
Shoosh,
Ryst |
