| Is it legal to have you work over 30 teaching hours without paying overtime if it is in the contract? I thought I heard that it wasn't. I'm interviewing for a job in ganagnam area that wants 33 hours a week for a kindy-elementary schedule but only pays 2.2-2.3, don't know if they pay for the hours over 30. In the past I would have said that this sucks but now it seems like all the jobs do unless you are female or have an education major. I really want the area even thought the schedule isn't the best either (up to 7pm 3 days a week). Would I be crazy to consider this job with or without the overtime paid or is that just how it is now? |

That's legal, but it sounds like a crappy job. Don't take it, there are a million schools in Gangnam.
(btw, beware contracts saying "30 teaching hours" too, they mean actual classroom time, this doesn't include prep time, break time, and any other time that you're at work but not actually teaching. You could end up being at school 45 or 50 hours a week without it technically counting as "overtime"!) |
