It's summer and many of us have some free time. Might be a good time to do a little professional development, especially about technology and teaching.

Any tool/application/website you highly recommend?

I highly recommend English Central. Sign up and track your students as they use it.

It'll blow away any touchscreen software you're currently using... Not freeware, but you can download a 30-day trial and I think the licence is only like $50 a year...

Immersive virtual environments are starting to be explored extensively for web 2.0 applications. One such free environment is Second Life. a free account and the viewer is available at www.secondlife.com. A colleague of mine is also doing his Ph.D. research into using "serious" gaming for Education and his findings are correlating that many forms of education can practically be done in MMORPGS and MUVEs.
