| I have heard people say yes and no. Consulate is Chicago for me, if it depends on the consulate. |

Hi There,
Have you worked in Korea before as a teacher on an E2? If so the answer is no.
If this is your first time teaching in Korea then yes.
If it is too far for you to go I recommend you do your best to convince them to give you a phone interview. If they don't you will have to go in.
It is not a job interview, but just a couple of questions (if that) about the need for a visa/ work.
It is only a visa requirement. Very general.

Yes, if all you have is a visa number AND this is your first visa. |

| Depends on how quickly and badly the school district wants you. I wasn't asked to do an interview at the consulate for my EPIK job. |

| If you're in EPIK, the answer is always no. Anybody who says "yes" doesn't know what they are talking about. |

Doesn't matter which consulate you go to, the EPIK applicants have a specific exemption from the consulate interview. If they suggest an interview, get them to ring someone at the EPIK office and explain the situation. |

Can you provide a SPECIFIC reference to back this up? The Chicago CONSULATE says no interview is required for EPIK, but the Atlanta consulate does not have that on their website. They say ANYONE who wants their first E-2 needs to interview. The Houston consulate has no information whatsoever, the Los Angeles and San Fransisco consulates have a form online that can be filled out and sent back, and finally the Embassy in Washington lists no exceptions.
I DID have to go to Chicago for an interview with EPIK right after they started that rule. A friend who lived in the Atlanta region did NOT have to go for an interview, while I know someone who finagled a phone interview with San Francisco.
Long story short, in my and my friends experience, it depends. Other posters, prove me wrong, but let's see some hard evidence from the Embassy or a higher source? |

The EPIK coordinator told me this was the procedure. It sucks if you have to go through the interview, but as I said try and wriggle out of it by name dropping etc. Its at least worth a try. |
