Has anyone ever been to the jade mine in Chuncheon? I've seen it mentioned on various websites. Apparently it's open to tourists and it's a sort of health resort now (or part of it is) but I haven't seen any information on how to contact someone at the mine to find out about visiting.
If anyone has been there or has some information on how to contact someone at the mine, please let me know.
Thanks. |

The mine was closed to the public as of early 2010. Not sure whether it's re-opened now, but it was closed in July - Contact information is here: http://tour.chuncheon.go.kr/eng/sub02/sub02_07_05.html
If it's any consolation, you're not missing much except a drippy cave and an overpriced giftshop (which is still open!). |

Thanks for the contact info. I'll give them a call.
I'm not actually very interested in seeing inside the mine. What I wanted to do was collect some samples of the jade and the parent rock (dolomite). It's my hobby.
Usually the dumping areas for the waste rock is very near to the entrance of a mine. If the mine is closed, then I need to try to find out if the dumping area is in a restricted area (or get permission to go there). |

I went to visit the Jade Mine three weeks ago and it was definitely closed. There is a store where you can buy jewelry and a sauna but I wouldn't recommend making the trip out there. Don't trust the tourist website! |
