hi all,

if any of the forum experts can please advise...

how far in advance can i apply to renew my e2 visa (at same hogwan)?

my current e2 visa expires of on october 2. I would like to reapply for my new visa asap.

its a bit of a long story. im brining my filipina wife over to korea on spouse visa, and i want to go and pick her up in manila during chuseok holidays (sept 21-26).

my wife will be ready to travel mid september. but im worried that the korean embassy will not approve her spouse visa application becuase my e2 visa will expire so soon on oct 2 (2-3weeks after her application). i dont know - it might be a problem for the embassy as they have problems with illegal filipina workers overstaying visa -and they might be wondering why on earth apply for spouse visa 2 weeks b4 my visa expires.

so i want to have my new e2 visa in hand by september 1, which will give her 2 weeks to apply for the spouse, then i can fly over during chuseok.

so my question again is how soon can i reapply for e2 visa. and if i get the new visa earlier than current visa expiry date - will the expiry date for the new visa be earlier also or will it extend 1 year on top of the current e2 visa (expire oct 2)...this is important because of receiving severance for the next year - if my new e2 visa expires at the time i apply for new visa and not the date on my existing visa then i wouldn't have worked a full year and might have problems getting severance.

i know the easiest is to just fly over after oct 2 when i would normally renew my e2 visa - i guess im just trying to take advantage of the chusoek public holidays instead of having to use my own accrued vacation time.

sorry for the long type
thanks in advance for any answers

some quick bits of advice.

a) you can renew/extend your E2 up to 60 days in advance of its expiry (if your boss can get the paperwork in order).

b) If YOU apply for a visa confirmation number here in Korea and send it to her then your wife will have NO PROBLEM getting her F3 in Manila. She will simply need patience for the long line, her visa confirmation number, her passport, application form, a passport type photo and the fee.

To get the visa confirmation number you will need: proof of family relationship (certified marriage certificate), proof of employment in Korea (employment certificate), passport, ARC and application form (no fee).

c) make sure she has had her CFO seminar and got the paper stapled into the back of her passport before you apply for her visa. Be aware than Philippine immigration will NOT let her out of the country without it.

ttompatz thank you for your advice,

can i please ask a question,

we plan for my wife to arrive in korea around sept 23, 2010. im guessing that means her visa will be valid to sept 23, 2011.

my visa expires on oct 2, 2010. im guessing it will again expire on oct 2, 2011. but my contract actually expires on oct 7, 2010 - so i may be obligated to work up unitl oct 7 2011.

my wife will refuse to fly alone, so this would mean that in 2011 her visa will expire on sept 23 and i will likely finish up work on oct 7. which means we will need to get a temporary extension for my wife for 15days.

will she be able to get a temporary extension for up to 30days on f3 visa? she is from the philippines and the tempory extension i heard is basically isjust a tourist visa, and u and i both know they are almost impossible for filipinas to get.

i had a look at the immigration link below (about temporary visa) but didnt really get anything from there

thanks in advance again ttompatz if you're able to advise

Ok... her visa will expire 90 days after it is issued.
She must enter Korea within 90 days.

Her status of sojourn will be for 1 year beginning on her date of entry. (sept to sept)

If you need to extend her status next year (sept to oct) it is a simple matter of an application, her ARC, your ARC and a 30k won fee. She will still have her F3 status and not be changed to "tourist".

IF you extend your contract again (fall 2011-2012), they will extend both of you (after Aug 7, 2011) to the same end dates of the subsequent contracts rather than just give her a 30 day extension.

They treat F3s much differently than they do a "tourist" and she already will have had legal status here as a resident.

No worries and sleep well.

Please make sure she has done the CFO thing. They won't let her leave without her CFO sticker.
