|
|
I have read on Dave's and also talked to people first hand who tried to ship their computers using the Korean PO only to be told the PO will not ship computers. But I have also read on Dave's the exact opposite.
This seems similar to a lot of visa information and application of rules out there - every immigration office gives a different answer. Sometimes you get 2 different answers from the same office.
Anyway, I have a 23' monitor in its original box I want to send to the USA. Will the fact that its "monitor only" have any bearing on it being accepted? I am going to try it anyway, and if they reject it I will try something else. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this.
Also, why would computers be prohibited in the first place? |

Prohibition with the post office and computers is because they are high value items and subject to theft and/or damage.
You may encounter a similar problem with your LCD monitor but less likely because it is a lower value than a computer is perceived to be.
Make sure that it is capable of working with wall power of 110VAC.
Some are rated 110-240VAC (work just fine) and some are only rated 220-240VAC.

Thanks ttompatz!
I found that the monitor in its box fits into one of my suitcases almost as if it was designed for it, so I will take it that way. Originally I was trying to get by with only one suitcase as I am going to Thailand first before Florida. But a family member won't let me ditch the second suitcase as I had planned as it has sentimental value. I estimate that second bag will cost me an extra $150 in excess baggage charges. The monitor should be safe though, right?
Thanks also for the power info - that was something that I was going to ask about on the technology forum. I just looked at the specs and it says AC 100(not 110)-240V, so I think I am all set. |

ya, if the monitor in the box has the original packing material it will be fine in your suitcase. I have taken 3 to the Philippines that way as well as several computers (desktops).
The power is fine if 100-240VAC.
Have a good trip.
