Hey guys,
In the "New E2 Regulations_ Diploma (7/15)_ FBI Check (US, 2011)" thread Park English posted:
Quote: |
Verification Letter Update: If you have already graduated and are just waiting to receive your diploma (some schools issue diplomas two or three months after graduation), immigration will still accept the verification letter from your university - just make sure the verification letter is on official school letterhead and states you have already graduated and are waiting to receive your diploma. Once you receive the verification letter, make sure to either get it apostilled or notarized by a local Korean Consulate/Embassy. As well, this is important, make sure your transcripts reflect you have completed all your coursework.
We hope this update helps. |
Can anyone confirm this?
I'm a Canadian who graduated in June, but the awarding of my degree won't take place until November. I thought I was out of luck until I read the above post.
I was wondering if anyone else was able to get them to accept a Letter of Verification + Transcript instead of the actual degree? Canadians in particular?
Thanks guys! |

I'm Canadian, too. I was in the same situation as yours. I got the letter from my university and it was proof enough, but that was a while ago, so you'd better get your answers straight from the horse's mouth, i.e. Korean Immigration or maybe the Korean embassy/consulate.
Another option is to go to your university, talk to the registrar (not his/her secretary) and explain your situation and your need to get the diploma in your hands as soon as possible. They get them months in advance, so it's not that they can't do it; they just prefer to wait until the ceremony. I'm not guessing this, by the way, a friend of mine got his that way. He was supposed to wait months for it but after showing his contract with his Korean school as a proof of what he said was true, he got it. |

Thanks a lot headache!
I'll be heading up to my university (McMaster) to try what you said. Hopefully they budge! If not, hopefully Korean immigration allows for notarized letters of verification from the university.
Did you go through the Toronto consulate, by any chance? |

Nope, I went through Montreal.
Also, I have to say that my friend had called at several different universities to know their policy about the diplomas. You should do that as well. It gives you more arguments. I think the one in Ottawa told him that he would get it at the ceremony or it would be sent to him right away if he wished to since he lived too far to go back to Ottawa just to get it (when he called, he did so as if he were a student there). |
