One of my favorite students is moving on Monday, for medical reasons. This girl has made teaching a pleasure. She wants to be an interpreter when she grows up, always helped out in class, was my little spy when the other students were naughty (like when they said mean things to a slow student and made him cry. She found out what they'd said), has better English than one of my coteachers, and better pronunciation than my HEAD coteacher!

You'll be missed, little one.

We're already penpals. I had a few students who wanted writing help start emailing me. Her mom's already invited me to visit their new home (a couple of hours by bus) next month.

I have a few great students that I like, they make it fun. Unfortunately, they are rare. Most of my students are either spoiled brats trying to be cool, just not interested or can't do the work.

But, I teach in the boonies and the academic level is low all the way around. Poor, uneducated parents who either can't or won't get involved in their kids education. Most of the ones I teach will end up as farmers or low level factory workers. No one expects anything from them.

Sounds like you included.

How exactly are they spoiled brats AND poor.

Sounds like most people in this comminuty have made a value judgment as an excuse ( I am not saying that you ARE doing this, just that it seems you also buy into this)

Feelings like this are kind of sad really " we don't think you wil ever amount to much so thats basically going to dictate what i expect from you, which isn't much"

What value judgment, moron!?! By the way, judging from your grammar and spelling, why are you teaching English? Fake diploma? Escaping that McDonald's job as burger flipper?

There are some students from a new high rise housing project that are starting to trickle in. Kids whose parents are managers, etc... Some of those kids are very spoiled. The rest are small town poor kids. Even the teachers for the most part have given up on them. Every midterm or final, they do horribly......and everyone just shrugs their shoulders. Sounds like you'd fit right in, Seoulio. Not with the teachers, with the students!

Haha no, she had it when I arrived, I used to sing it to the tune of 'Mickey' then her dad got posted in China Sad
I'm sure there's probably been a thread about strange names, but some do make me laugh, we had a kid who chose Poindexter for himself, he was very smart and knew exactly what it meant, bless him.

Hey I am just going by what you said "NO ONE expects anything from them. you didn't exactly suggest that you go out of your way to rise above this expectation.

As for my spelling, its called crappy typing skills.

Oh ouch, I am wounded, really.

How many spelling mistakes were there in the last post or this one? Is the answer zero, okay thanks very much.

Look I was simply commenting on your own post. There are far too may teachers that just think "hey my kids are poor and unmotivated, I am off the hook worrying about trying to make them actually learn"

As I said, you didn't do anything to say that this is not you.

So if you want to pick on my TYPING skills ( not that this is an original notion) when cleary I can make a mistake free post if I take the time, then by all means go ahead and duck making that distinction about yourself.

I simply made the comment that it SOUNDS like you were in the same boat, you could have corrected me, you chose to insult me. No Biggie. I have been known to do that from time to time as well.
