Gaza remark signals Cameron's kick-and-run diplomacy

Hahaha! Laughed at this:

Quote:
David Cameron jumped into the ever-sensitive politics of the Middle East with both boots flying today, determined to call a spade a bloody shovel and Gaza a "prison camp" that shamed all those, principally Israel, responsible for its enduring misery. Cameron's lunge was the diplomatic equivalent of Nigel de Jong's chest-high tackle of Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final. From Israel's perspective, he too was lucky not to be sent off.

For those who didn't watch the World Cup Final, here is a clip of Nigel de Jong's chest-high tackle of Xabi Alonso

Quote:
With its mix of energy and determination, this is Cameron-style kick-and-run diplomacy. Call it naive. Or call it radical. But it's certainly different.

Sorry BB, but he is a politican.

I mean, you don't go to Turkey and say anything that might upset them and this is an issue that has the Islamic cockles rather warm at the moment.

So suck up to them and sell what ever they want to hear. Smile

In the next ten years Turkey might be a member if you can convince Greece, Austria, Hungary, etc that the Ottomon Empire isn't on the return Razz

(post edit) Though there are others who I have read who have made better points as to why Turkey isn't ready. One was a commentator who responded to a complaint that Turkey was not ready as "You are not a Turk, you are just a kurd or PKK". No offence but I thought the Kurds in Turkey were Turkish citizens, let alone the issue of Crete that seems to set off both parties.

With hindsight, I dont need to make this point - (though the world is a mess)

The above was editted from the original post. Sorry if anyone took offence to the original.

And here's some of the fallout.

Israel president Shimon Peres accuses Britain of pro-Arab bias

Quote:
Israel's president, Shimon Peres, has accused some British MPs of pandering to anti-Israel sentiment among their Muslim voters, claiming there is a "deeply pro-Arab" core in the UK establishment.

In an interview with Jewish website Tablet, conducted by Israeli historian Benny Morris, Peres says: "There are several million Muslim voters [in the UK]. And for many members of parliament, that's the difference between getting elected and not getting elected."

On Labour politicians, he said: "They think the Palestinians are the underdog. In their eyes, the Arabs are the underdog. Even though this is irrational."

The occupiers, not the occupied are the underdogs - how rational, Mr Peres.

Quote:
He offers the illustration of Israeli disengagement of Gaza as evidence of bias. "We evacuated 8,000 settlers, and it was very difficult It cost us $2.5bn in compensation.

Awww. Boo hoo. We are all supposed to forget that those 8,000 settlers shouldn't have been there in the first place?

Quote:
Peres's remarks chime with a deepening concern among Israeli politicians that opinion, particularly in Europe, is turning against the Jewish state.

Last week, David Cameron described Gaza as a "prison camp" during a visit to Turkey, which some commentators interpreted as a hardening of an anti-Israel position in Britain.

Peres, 86, also claimed there is more antisemitism in the UK than is acknowledged. "There is in England a saying that an antisemite is someone who hates the Jews more than is necessary."

What absolute toss. I have never, in all my life, heard this famous English saying "an antisemite is someone who hates the Jews more than is necessary."

Has any other English person ever heard this? I'd be very interested to know. In my whole time in England, I've only ever met one idiot who talked a load of anti-semitic trash. It was memorable because it was so uncommon. Maybe I just hang out in the wrong circles? Most racist crap I've heard is directed at 'pakis' and blacks.

While there may well be anti-semitism in England - there's certainly every other brand of racism - it's hardly the den of antisemitism he's making out. Desperate old man!

BB, some Jews were just returning home.

Though, for some of them, if the PA offered equal rights for Jews/Muslims/Christians in the new PA State, then I am sure that you would find some settlers would give up Israeli citizenship in exchange for being able to live near thier most holiest places.

The burial places of the patriarchs is in the west bank etc

Its hard to be anti Israeli/Jewish occupation if the palestinian/muslims hold the same views in regards to Jews being able to stay there post independence.

Though, its hard to see if they can ever live in peace. Thier are no Jews in Gaza, so the Christians get targeted and they have been there longer than muslims, so go figure eh.

Its a difficult issue and I do try to look equally at both sides even though I do fail at times. Though as non participants on the sidelines, if we cant make it better for everyone, then maybe we should sit it out.

They say family disputes are the most intense and this is what this one is.

Can we leave personal attacks out of the issue, there are too many already on this complicated issue already between all involved parties.
