Anyone bought a laptop in Korea recently? I'm looking to buy one soon and I'd love to hear some recommendations.

Thanks.

What do you want to do with it?

What's your budget?

Any preferences for brands/components?

It's for my wife, so she won't be playing video games or anything. I want something that is, most importantly, a good value and won't be obsolete too quickly. Good enough for general computing, some movies, etc.

Looking at websites here and in the US, it looks like they're more expensive here for similar models. Am I right?

Budget: I'd love something under 1 million, but 1.3 is ok if the value is good.

Thanks.

I love it! It's portable, light, fast and a fantastic laptop. I would be sure to get it with windows 7 though. oh it was 1 million won.

If you or the wife speak decent Korean, go to your local computer shops until you find someone who builds customs and get one for half the price of a crap-tastic Samsung machine.

I wouldn't concentrate on the brand when buying a laptop.....I'd just go around Yongsan and/or Technomart feeling, touching, prodding and generally messing around with as many laptops as possible....make a shortlist of the 3 or 4 that you like.

.....then try to get the best spec and accessories for the money you're willing to spend.....regardless of brand. All the major laptop manufacturers nowadays use parts of around the same quality level on the inside.......it's the spec of those parts that differs....is the CPU faster or slower than the others?....is the RAM faster or slower?

Buy on the spec.....not for brand.

Overpriced by about 30%.

Loaded with Mal-ware.

Made with inferior components.

However, the same could be said about any big name manufacturer. Save yourself the trouble, buy custom. Or learn to do it yourself, it is not that difficult outside of placing the motherboard.

Where do you get the barebones, then? Outside of Clevo, I know of no manufacturer that even sells to consumers like that.
