I am new to Seoul. Does anyone know any good spots for new people to hang out. Only places I found recommended on theinternet were in Mokdong and both Madigan's and Beer O'clock seem to haveclosed. Any info on the following three areas is appreciated. Thanks.

MoKdong, Youngdeungpo, and Yeouido

I have heard of Hongdae but am looking for info on these 3.

Go to the area around the McDonald's burger joint at Sinjeongnegori Station on Line Number 7. It is in the Shinjung-Dong neighbourhood, and many expats live over there. You coulod walk to that place from Mokdong Station, Exit Number 7, in about ten minutes.

Also, there is a either a brew pub or an Irish pub/restaurant in Yoido. Check out the Galbi Jim blog for details. Just Google "Galbi Jim Korea Blog."

Hey and welcome!

I lived in Mokdong last year. I used to go to a place called Loss Time, between Mokdong station and Sinjeongnegori. It's practically outside the Avalon and you get foreign teachers from KNC and Avalon in there often - - though we didn't finish until 10pm. It's nothing special, just a bar (no sports/games etc) which does food, and if your looking to meet other foreigners it could be a good shot.

Hi,

Is the Avalon campus a good place to work? I taught at the Ewha American Language School back in 2000-2001. I liked the area because of its location and the friendly locals.

yeoiudo isn't really a shopping or bar area.. It's mostly offices. There is a nice park there as well as building 63.

Dirty sinjeongnegorie is line 2...watch out for street pancakes....

My favorite watering hole is a basement bar...each night of the week has 2500W domestic bottle special and a 4000W import....

As for Losstime it is okay, but Millertime used to be a bit better, both are near Avalon, although at losstime you can pee on soapbars, mothballs and ice in the urinals....

There are quite a few icebars between sinjeongnegore exits 1/4 and 2/3....lots of gems to discover also...but I am wongtta and don't want to give to much info....

I live in Yeongdeungpo. It's not really a 'hang out' place. It's a down-trodden and industrial area, although select parts of it are liveable. Over by YDP Office, there's a nice area with your typical small-sized park, Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts, etc., but nothing stands out. The new Times Square shopping complex is pretty nice, has a big movie theater in it, Kyobo, a big Emart and various restaurants. YDP is also close to Yeouido Island if you want a bit of greenery.

Popcorn Ajumma's is still there, but she is not...and it is no longer popcorn, but just peanuts....Popcorn Ajummas husband got out of jail, and she sold the place

....and the basement bar you mention is still there...I go there often but I never see any waegookin there...except me...but they started to serve popcorn about 2 months ago....bizarre...

made it to loss time. that place has so many things not good about it. however i journeyed around sinjeung and found some great bars and hot girls so all was not lost. i remember hooking up with a girl on the hood of a cab but not much else. had three new phone numbers this morning so mokdong can be lots of fun. still havent found any youngdeungpo or yeouido spots yet. so around losss time aint bad but loss time is only a place to go in a group and have conversations about politics and why your job sucks.

Loss Time is nothing special? NOTHING SPECIAL?

This is a frankly ridiculous statement. The owner is probably the best person I've ever met. He is bilingual and his service is second to none. He even keeps the bar open until 4am for his special customers. He provides table snacks and plastic chairs outside in the summer.

It will be a cold day in Loss Time before I sit back and let you call it "nothing special". Loss Time would have to freeze over. Losh time?
