|
|
Hi.
I finish my current contract mid december and will fly home for afew weeks for christmas until early January.
My question is...
if i want to start a job with a new school....will i have to go through the long process of reapplying for a visa since i was already here??
Or...should i sign with a new school before i leave if possible and then go home for christmas and come back in January to begin my work???
Will this eliminate having to go through the long visa process again??
I know it is easy to extend a current visa if you stay with the same employer.
Any help appreciated. Thanks! |

ttompatz is usually the dude who gets on to these types of questions, but he may have missed this one, so i'll take a shot:
(NB: my recent circumstances are very similar to your own.)
1. a new job/school/contract requires a repeat of the whole process. you'll probably be able to skip the consulate interview, since you've already had an E2 visa.
2. ideally, you'd want to find a new job and sign a contract before you leave. that's what i did. all that means, however, is that you've secured a position. you still have to go through the process again.
3. you COULD potentially get a visa transfer. this means you'll get a form and get your current employer to sign over your visa to another school. the NEXT contract needs to start IMMEDIATELY after your LAST contract for this to work. i really don't think this is an option for you, so i'll spare you the details.
my advice would be to:
- organise a new job/contract here. sign it, etc.
- order your CBC, to be delivered either to you here or somewhere safe in your home country. then, you'll simply be able to take it to get stamped/signed/molested (i don't know what your nationality is - the CBC process depends very much on that) at your leisure.
- organise your transcripts.
i did the above BEFORE i left my last job, and it still took exactly four weeks to get the CBC apostilled, organise my transcripts, express post the documents to korea, wait for the visa issuance number to be processed, take my passport (with the visa number) to the korean consulate to get the visa, then stare at the sexy new E21 stuck triumphantly in my passport.
then theres the option you slightly suggested - extend your current visa with your current employer.
these are your options. if you didn't plan on seeing family, etc, you COULD possibly do a visa run. i did that last year with the usual documents.
i hope this helps. |

Thanks for taking the time to give a detailed reply isisaredead.
hmmm i was hoping i would be able to avoid all the visa process red tape this time around.
I will approach my school about extending, but if they are not willing to give me time to go home at christmas i will start the process of looking for a new employer immediately for sometime in January.
Thanks for your help, made things clearer for me. |

not a problem.
try to combine sick days and holidays and stuff when you try to bargain for extended time off. if it's a good school/hagwon, it's worth making certain compromises just to stay at it, knowing exactly who you're dealing with and avoid the visa process; which, i might add, for some members of certain nations, can be quite costly.
i must've spent over $500 on the entire process last time. |
