|
|
I'm an American. Is there an office that does notarizing in Itaewon? I can't get my document notarized at the U.S. Embassy as I can't go during the week because of my work hours.
However, I'm looking to get a notarized stamp on a permission form for a criminal record check, so I can send it to a family member who will get the criminal record report on my behalf. I just have to get a notary to stamp the form saying it was actually signed by me. |

I am a notary (in the USA) here in Seoul, but I am not sure that my notary seal is recognized outside the USA (I doubt it). |

Can a US notary notarize documents when they are outside the US? I read all the documents before I came here because I was thinking about becoming a notary for this very reason, but it appeared it can't be done. It would be great to hear this is not the case!
I have had documents notarized by Korean notaries for US purposes. The Korean notary, however, insisted that the documents be translated into Korean before he would notarize them. The notarial certificate was bilingual. |

This might save you some frustration:
I recently got a CBC and apostille. I am a resident of New Mexico but I was in Connecticut (very unfortunate, I know) for a couple months so I had my signature on the CBC notarized in Conn. The state police back in New Mexico accepted my CBC application and returned it to me. I sent it to the Secretary of State of NM who refused to accept my out of state notary.
Long story short: I would check with your secretary of state first - mine will only accept a notary registered in the same state.
I had to fly back to new mexico where, unlike crappy Conn., I got the whole process done in person in 2 hours for $13. Connecticut wanted about $150 for a 2 week process. I'm going to get a second bachelors degree in jumping through hoops.
If you figure out a way to do it from abroad it would be very helpful to know. I would appreciate a pm or a post with the details. |

Sometimes you can contact the police authorities directly by mail and make sure that they notarize it. Many times this notarial service by the police is free.
I am originally from Missouri. The Missouri Highway Patrol, the only state-wide police force has an application you can send to request a CBC. I sent a request with a $10 and note asking them to notarize it. Then I had them send it to my father. In the meanwhile I sent a letter to my father that requests the Missouri Secretary of State to attach an apostille with the notarized CBC. When my father received the CBC from MO Highway Patrol he is to put it in an envelop with the letter to the SOS. He has mailed it to SOS and I should get the CBC back from SOS in a week.
I advise people to do a lot of homework. You really do not need to go back to the US to get a CBC. (I would say any jurisdiction would satisfy Korean Immigration. Find the most easy jurisdiction to handle both the CBC and the Apostille. |

An American notary stamp is not legal used outside the state where it was issued. A Korean notary must be apostilled by the ministry of Foreign Affairs to be legal outside Korea. |

US Immigration (if you're thinking of taking a spouse home with you) will accept documents notarized by a Korean notary. YMMV |
