Does everyone get the whole week off or just the three days?

Also, what are your plans?

Looks like I'm getting the whole week off. I wanted to stay in Korea, but my coworker has assured me that traveling within the country will be a nightmare. I might just head to Beijing instead.

Do you work in a public school or a hagwon?

I don't know yet about public schools, but if you're at a hagwon you can bet on just getting the three days only.

If I get the whole week off, I will probably go to Japan. I'm not sure what I'll do if I only get 3 days, I guess I'll probably just stay home.

Ha, I wish. At mine, we'll get only the day of off, then we'll have to make it up that Saturday.

It really depends on the hagwon. We're getting the entire week off, but I also don't work for a chain and my boss is fairly awesome.

Three days only, and even that will be given grudgingly.

We get the full three days off (Tue, Wed, Thu) and the Friday is my research day. I'm probably going to give out some busy work for my Monday classes to do at home as many students commute long distances to come to class. I did think about finding some kind of conference in Thailand to attend that week, but all the cheap airfares for the Chuseok period (from the Thursday night before the holiday, even) have all been snapped up since June. Probably just as well as it is a bit cheeky to take off and leave the country over an unofficial day off.
To the poster who said that s/he only has the one day off - check your calendar - there are 3 red days for Chuseok, this means that they are national holidays and your employer is obliged to give you the time off - and definitely screw the Saturday make up idea, unless you are paid overtime.

Depends where you work. Schools in Seoul and area tend to have more days off during chuseok. However, if you are in the country good chance it's only the 3 days off, but public schools have a nack for planning events for those days.

I thought someone was going to ask this question, so I will just answer it anyway - "Whats open and closed on Chuseok"

http://www.korea4expats.com/article-Chuseok-closings.html

p.s. - I am getting nine days off over Chuseok (18th~27th).

Off the whole week from my afterschool and then I took the Monday and Friday off from my business academy.

Going to Boracay.

Got the tickets in April. Expensive cause of the time of year, but really looking forward to it.

If you work at a public school, usually all the set dates are planned ahead of time. Your co-teacher should have a book that has the entire academic year planned out (holidays, sports days, half days, test days, etc).

I asked my co-t and she said that we're getting Tue-Fri off, basically a six-day vacation week. Tue, Wed and Thur being Red Days, Friday being an extra school holiday.

Since I wasn't here last year, I was told by a co-worker that they only got the day of Chuseok off last year and they had to make it up that Saturday. We worked on Christmas day, got Lunar New Year's and Buddha's birthday off but made them up on Saturday with no overtime pay. I'm guessing it will be no different for Chuseok.

Chuseok is a Lunar holiday, so the dates change every year. Last year it fell over a weekend and sucked, so we all just got one day off. This year it is slam in the middle of the week so you should be getting the three full days. Some private school owners are Aholes and try and rort their employees, sounds like you have one of those as an employer. S/he shouldn't be able to force employees to make up national holidays without overtime pay. How you want to deal with it is up to you.
