It's been nearly ten years now that I've been living and working in Korea and China, and throughout that time, as a confirmed bibliophile, erstwhile librarian, sometimes underemployed English major, and so on, it's been BOOKS, or more precisely, the LACK of them (in English, anyway), that has been my greatest difficulty.

(OK, so maybe I'm a pretentious jerk to say that I love books so much. Maybe. Or whatever.)

Anyway, I know that I'm not alone in this book-deprived plight, and so I'd like to share.

From just one private torrent site I've downloaded within the past few days, weeks, and months, the following great books:

George Orwell, COMING UP FOR AIR

Alain de Botton, THE ART OF TRAVEL and HOW PROUST CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Charles Dickens, DOMBEY AND SON

BRITANNICA ILLUSTRATED SCIENCE LIBRARY (2008), all six volumes

David Mitchell, THE CLOUD ATLAS and THE THOUSAND AUTUMNS OF JACOB DE ZOET

Dorothy Sayers, THE NINE TAILORS

Gerald Durrell, A ZOO IN MY LUGGAGE

Graham Greene, OUR MAN IN HAVANA

Henry Miller, TROPIC OF CANCER

Julia Child, MY LIFE IN FRANCE

and so on, and on, and ON . . .

That's about a tenth of the good books I've download recently. Many are only available on this one private tracker (or at least very hard to find elsewhere on the Web), and the good news is this:

You too can join My Anonamouse. (http://www.myanonamouse.net.) Or if registration is closed or at all difficult (ie, via IRC), I've got PILES of invites.

It's extremely easy to maintain a good ratio on this site, because if you seed even just a little you get bonus points which you can trade for upload credit.

My motivation in offering to invite strangers: sheer bibliophilic philanthropy. If anything, I'm taking a little bit of a risk, since I might get banned myself if my invitees don't maintain ratio.

Again, My Anonamouse! Check it out! If you like books, you are bound to find something you like here.
