|
|
Hello.
Situation:
We have been with our current Hawgwon for 6 months.
We just found out that our current Hawgwon has not put money into our pension for the past 5 months. Pension balance: zero
They have never paid us on time or in full.
They just let us know that this may be there last month open.
We went to the Labor office and they said they cannot help us unless we come with someone from school. Everyone from school lies. WE don't know what to do or where to get help.
We would like our visa to be released so that we can work for another school.
How do we get our visa released?
Do we have any rights?
What can we do?
Where do we get help? |

You have many issues to deal with and they will take stops at different government offices. There is no one-stop place to get it all fixed for you.
Labor can help with unpaid wages.
Contact the pension office but you can be assured that your lying boss has declared you to be a self-employed contractor so you will have a fight on your hands (as much with the pension office as your old boss).
As to your visa issue you have 2 options:
a) Get a LOR (letter of release) from your current employer (usually means getting screwed some more).
b) Leave Korea (trip to anywhere) and inform immigration at the airport that you have quit, want your visa canceled and then hand in your ARC.
*This trip can be as short as 2 plane rides (out and back).
You can then either look for a new job while you are sitting on a beach somewhere or you can return immediately to Korea and begin your new job search.
This option DOES require you to have a complete set of new documents for a new visa application.

On the LOR. Do I type up a letter and have the school sign it? Or is there a form that I need to get and ask the school to sign.
Thank you for your advice!

You're leaving your school because they aren't paying pension?
Please, do us a favor and quit so that someone who wants a job can take yours.
Cry me a river, seriously. |

The main reason we are wanting to get out of this situation is that she cannot aford to pay her teachers. Over summer break 5 teachers quit because she did not pay them!
It went from 120 students in July to 40 studnets in August. The school is probably going to close by the end of the month and we need a release letter to look for another job. |
