|
|
The mother of one of my former students, an eight year old girl who was born in the States and who has advanced English language skills, has had no luck finding a hagwon for her daughter in Daejeon. I tutored this delightful little girl for over a year, before her father was transferred back to Korea from Oregon. She is very bright, loves to study, and only has to hear or read something once to internalize it. Her reading comprehension test scores were off the charts.
I would appreciate any advice from Daejeon NETs as to which hagwons cater to near native speaking primary school age children. |

"Reading Town Genius" is specifically designed for advanced students who are still quite young. The texts they use tend to more like North American schools, not simply ESL books. They also have a great English Library. It is located in Dunsan Dong, Daejeon. |

Thanks for feedback but they tried that hagwon and it just didn't challenge her. The material was too easy. She was born in the States and left for Korea at the age of seven so essentially she's a native speaker of English. She was reading at a fourth grade level when her family moved back to Korea and her teachers in the U.S. found it hard to keep her challenged.
Any other ideas from Daejeon teachers would be much appreciated. |

My suggestion would be to have her get tutors or a good tutor. Her parents could also try to put her into Daejeon International School.
If it were Seoul I could suggest a couple places, but outside of there I am not sure there is enough demand for what your asking. |

She's going to be the youngest one in her class by far, but Chung Dahm in Dunsan-dong is pretty good. I'll see if I can find the number somewhere. |

If there's an Avalon in Deajeon I'd recommend that. They should have a special programme for bright kids. |

I'd be looking to get her into the International School in Daejeon. Either that or CDI, Poly etc. |
