Hey I just moved here and kinda need the low down on cell phones. I'm here for only 12 months but want a good camera phone so I can snap some decent shots while touring around.

Is my best bet to buy one online just to avoid the hassle of finding one and then buy a monthly plan from there? What company offers the best rates? I like to text a lot pretty much won't be making many calls.

Getting a plan on an E2 is a near impossibility. Getting pictures off the majority of Korean phones onto a computer is a pain anyway. Get a camera for less than $100 ($50 if you shop around for an older model) that'll take better pictures than 99% of the phones out there and a crap prepaid phone, unless you've got a Korean willing to get you a decent phone/camera in their name.

See if a friend will put you on their plan. My friend got a new phone and kept her old one activated. I just pay her every month. It's far easier than putting down a deposit or getting a prepaid phone and having to charge it constantly.

My friend put it down in her name, and I just pay her. Got a Galaxy S too, and didn't pay anything Smile

This is for sure easy to do. I signed a one year contract with LG. I did this in March. No Korean friend. I went there alone. The people who sold me the phone could not communicate very well, so they called some one could speak English well and handed me the phone. The whole process took 1/2 hour.

When I saw this post I got my contract out. All I needed was my alien card and my passport to sign a 1 year contract. The money is taken out of my bank account.

I used to have a prepaid phone. that was a royal pain in the butt because I had to keep track of time. But it is good for some people. To each his/her own.

For transactions that come out of my bank account I have a separate account. I only keep in there 200,000 at a time

I paid 30,000 for my phone. I could have paid 20,000 for one, but I liked this one better. The camera is pretty good, and it is not hard to put the pictures on the computer. I did have a Korean friend download the driver.

You can get a contract phone from LG, a piece of cake. None of the cell providers will give you a smart phone, but I think all of them will give you a normal phone on contract. LG definitely will, no problems.

I think this is a common misconception. I've heard other people say the same thing, but I had no problem getting a one year plan, nor did any of my coworkers. I believe you can only use Oz, and considering your E2 is only good for one year they won't give you a longer contract than that, but you can get a contract.

I have LG's Cooky and using bluetooth have no problem at all getting photos onto my computer.
