|
|
My ARC expires on September 2nd and my Visa on August 31st,, however, I'm leaving September 4th to go back home. Do I have to get both of these extended if so what's the fee/process?
Thanks in advance. |

| Don't stay in the country without an extension on your visa. A couple years ago I overstayed on my visa by just 7 days and I still get harassed and warned about it now when applying for new visas - "overstays" stay on your passport/visa record as a red flag. boo. |

Visa expiry date is irrelevant.
Your ARC expiry date it the important one.
Since it expires before your intended departure date you DO need to get an extension.
The process is simple enough.
Make a trip to immigration with your exit ticket, ARC and passport.
They will extend you to the date of the ticket (up to 30 days past the end of your ARC).
There is NO COST (free).
If you have access to a fax machine you can do it on-line via the immigration website but there are fewer potential problems if you do it in person.

Are you sure the visa expiry date is irrelevant? The other poster on this thread said otherwise. |

| contrary to what the other poster said about this whole process being free, i paid 30000 won to have my ARC extended, but apparently the extension doesn't apply to the e-2 visa. of course i didn't find this out until i was at the airport departing for vacation outside korea. fortunately it was right before the visa expired so i was able to re-enter the country. so even though i got my "period of sojurn is extended" sticker in my passport and the back of my ARC reads that my period of stay ends a year from now, i apparently still have to get a whole new visa (according to the immigration people at incheon airport). |

The visa in your passport governs your ability to enter the country NOT your stay in the country.
Your ARC governs your status of sojourn - your stay in the country.
Your ARC is the one that matters.
Regardless - get the extension.\
Non working extensions are free.
If you extend your contract the fee is 30k won + an additional 50k won if you want the re-entry privileges extended too.

Huh? I'm so confused with this post. It's only FREE if you extend non-working days like in the OP's case. I think someone misinformed you at the airport. I think they meant to say you needed a new entry Visa for your next contract. |

What he did was extend his status of sojourn (ARC) but failed to get a new re-entry permit for the extended period (previous re-entry privileges do NOT carry over into the extension).
When he left the country he effectively canceled his status of sojourn and then needed to get a new visa to continue work.

that's right. i went back and had to shell out another 50000W for a new multiple reentry visa. i still don't see why they didn't just give me the option when i went to immigration before but whatever, at least i know what to do next time. |
