|
|
So I'm coming to Korea on the 24th and I'm flying with Delta to Chicago, and Korean Air from there.
My question is how much baggage can I bring? What's included in the airfare? How much stuff did you bring?
Right now I'm looking at two suitcases about 2x2x1, and one to carry on.
Too much?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks! |

As far as I know it's 2 checked bags and 1 carry-on for international flights originating from the USA. If your flight to Chicago is part of your booked itinerary then the international baggage limits ought to be honored. You'd to better to contact the airlines you're flying with though. |

Not sure about your domestic flight (check the airline website) but your international flight allows you 2 bags of 23kg each + 1 carry-on + a laptop if you are bringing one,
Personally, in my opinion, if you are dragging that much stuff with you then you are way over-packed.
Most folks from the rest of the planet are only allowed 20kg total weight for baggage and they get by just fine.

You are not leaving the airport in Chicago are you? If it is part of your connecting flight you should be allowed 2 50lb bags and a carry-on. |

ya know, you can always look on the airline's site, or even call them!
They are the ones who actually take ya there.... |

No way, it's better to ask strangers who may have used a different airline! |

Ya way too lazy for that. Plus I wanted to know what other people brought.
Did most people buy a lot of clothes and whatnot when they got here?
What would you consider most important/useful to bring rather than buy there? |

First thing I would do is find out from the school about their dress code.
Then decide what to pack. The weather here is the same as NY. Shoes are almost impossible to buy here. (ones that fit) Buy a laptop at home. If you need a camera get that at home also. If you want any special over the counter drugs, bring them.
Tylenol can be gotten in any pharmacy. Glasses are super cheap here.
Bring your favorite deodorant. Bring a few books.
Bring ear-plugs for the plane. You man also need them in your apartment, but they are cheap here.
Have a good trip. |

Yep, coming in is like 50kg combined, but leaving is 44 combined. |

I don't think anything I brought to Korea was vital or important other than the clothes I was in...
Laptop I thought would be but it broke within the first week and wasn't fixed for the following 5 and i was fine. That's all I can think of actually. |

I just flew on a Delta connector from Boston to NYC, and then Korean Air from NYC to Seoul. I was worried about them charging me the normal domestic baggage fee for the connector, so I called Delta. They informed me that there would be no baggage fee, because mine was an international itinerary.
As they said, no baggage charges. And one of my bags was 60lbs(10 over the 50lb limit) but the check-in lady decided not to charge me the $50 fee for it. But I wouldn't bank on that happening in most cases.
Another off-topic, but related story. I booked Air China, Seoul to NYC, changed my flight, agreed to pay $200 at the check-in counter(for changing), and was never charged! The thought of that $ saved made my 34 hour journey a whole lot nicer! |
