I live in an office-tel and instead of traditional locks and keys all of the units use an electronic keypad for entering (which means no more lost keys coming home from hongdae and calling the locksmith, yey!). I asked my boss how to change it and she wasn't sure and said to check with my co-teachers, they didn't know either. Does anyone here know? It looks the same as every other one I've ever seen in Seoul. I'm guessing it has something to do with the pinhole on the inside of the door? I assume the process is something like sticking a pin in it, entering my old code and then new one twice... but I can't figure anything out.

If you must know why I want to change it. I have had to give it to delivery men twice who just showed up with a large package ignoring my instructions on gmarket to call first to arrange delivery as well as an ex-girlfriend who likes to show up randomly in the middle of the night sometimes.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm sure a locksmith could show me how for all of 10,000 won but I thought I'd check here first.

post a picture of the inside part of it. You might have to take off the cover where the batteries are. If I knew you had the same one I had last year, I'd tell you how, but chances are it's not the same model.

That round black thing behind where the batteries go... is that a button?

No it's just a hole...

I think it has something to do with the pinhole.

Then I have no idea. My old one had a button if you wanted to change the code. You just had to hit the button and then the keypad would light up, you'd put in your new code, hit star and then it was done.

Also, I recommend getting packages delivered to your school or have the delivery guy give them to the building office manager to hold for you rather than giving them the code to your apartment.

Small things I ship to my work, bigger items (like the LCD screen and computer chairs I ordered) I obviously sent straight here. They will hold a package for me but I saw no harm in giving them the code. I figured I could just change it anyway, but couldn't figure it out. I'm also going to note that I had delivery instructions (in Korean!) to call me to arrange a delivery time, both times it was ignored and since the guy was at my door with the package it made sense to let him know the code.

Thanks for your help though, I hope someone on this board is familiar with the lock system I have and can help!

Also, you can probably ask the people in your building's office how to change the code. I'm sure they'd show you.

Yep, I recently had mine changed. If you're talking about the pinhole next to the green button in the first picture, that's the one you should be dealing with. (Make sure it's the only one though, mine had 'reset code' in Korean written next to it. If it says 비밀번호-something, that's the one)

I just punched the thing and set the code after a beep but can't say for sure for your model. Let me know the model number and the manufacturer, I might be able to help.

BTW, I think it's just better to bring a Korean and have him/her talk to the call center, I'm sure the phone number also is written on it somewhere.

Plus, just in case you didn't know, if you have just moved in, change the batteries. You don't wanna lock yourself out. Wink

Hey thanks for the reply!

I looked at the unit, no model # anyway, it does give a serial # 0406
It's branded as "Digital Science" if that helps any.

There is a phone # on it but it's just a sticker which I'm certain is for a local locksmith... and no mention of the word reset anywhere on the device Sad

I'm afraid I can't help you only with the infos provided.
Since there seems to be the name of the officetel written on it, I'm guessing everyone in your building has the same model? Then you'll have to have your co-worker/or anybody call the janitor or the management office to figure the way out. They can easily get the number by calling 114.

Good luck!

I ended up calling the manufacturer with a Korean friend.
The guy on the line didn't even know the procedure, we had to take a picture of the unit and send it to his cell phone over text so he could show his colleagues and found someone there who knew how. Only in Korea... lol

But thanks for your replies!

btw iammac2002, did you live in the Yeseong I-Life in Gangnam? (right next to exit 1).[/list]

on mine there's a black button next to the batteries that is revealed only after sliding off the cover.

i hold this button down while the door is open, then reach around the front and slide up the keypad cover, type in new 4-digit PIN plus the star * key and i hear a nice, satisfying "beep!" that's it.
