I went into Mokdong immigration yesterday with the wife and kids, prepared to get the 3rd degree and having to show mountains of paperwork, etc. As we almost got there, wife realizes that she had forgotten our apt. contract and I'm thinking this will not bode well. Amazingly we arrive for our 11:30 reservation (I highly recommend this as it saved LOADS of time) and the immigration officer took our documents, had my wife fill out one more form that I guess we had forgotten to do, told us to go get the stamp fees and picture and bring it back to him and that would be it. Ten minutes with the guy was it and he didn't even ask about money in the bank OR the apt. lease. After doing the above mentioned steps took it back to him and he said we'd have it within 3 weeks!
Talked to my friend who also has an F5 and he said he had heard that November last year they had relaxed the regulations to get an F-5 but wow I was just blown away by how easy it was. Again I'll be a bit skeptical until I have the new card in my hand, but up to this point all was smooth sailing. So for anyone else sweating it, fear not, it's not bad at all. |

On another note Mods can we PLEASE have a sticky for F2/F5 people? We have one for E2, it only makes logical sense to have one for F2/F5 people as well, doesn't it? I had a hard time searching for threads/answers to F5 questions until a nice member here answered a PM. |

Yeah I know about this site but what a pain to join. You have to fax them a copy of your alien card to prove you're worthy enough to become a member. For me, who was just wanting to get some last minute info a day before I was to go there, it was useless as I couldn't be bothered to run down and copy my alien card, fax it or scan it, email and then hope for a reply.
It just makes sense to have a sticky here at Dave's too as we have stickies for E2 visas so why not others? |

From my experience and from what I have heard, if you have kids, it is pretty easy and straight forward. |

I just wish you could peruse the information without having to actually jump through the hoops of scanning/emailing your alien card, that's all. Theoretically if you were on an E-2 and were wondering if you qualified for an F2/F5 you would be SOL as you HAVE to be a member to see the information that is so helpful, and to be a member you HAVE to have an F-2. Kind of a Catch 22 isn't it? |

If are you an E-2 there is WAY more than enough information on this board on how to get an F-2 visa. 99% of those who do, do so through marriage. No brainer there. For the other 1%, there is a post on here somewhere that states how.
Also there have been F5 discussions on here as well.
The AFEK site is more of a social site without all the redundant questions that this site often sees, and with people who have more invested in Korea than most members of this site. |

My point exactly, there HAVE been F5 discussions. I just wish a sticky could be put up, plain and simple. |

Where would the be a sticky for a topic that is relevant to (I'm guessing) less than 0.5% of the people who visit the board?
Stickies are for topics that are needed by most people and are likely to get posted to and read a lot. An F5 thread does not fit that criteria. |

Yeah you are guessing. I'm sure F2/F5 people are more than 0.5% of this board, that number definitely was pulled from your a$$. It would take nothing to start a sticky, would be beneficial to anyone thinking of getting an F2/F5 |

Post it in the AFEK sticky. It's checked pretty regularly. |

Maybe, but not a whole lot more.
74911 members.
0.5% would be around 375 members..
last announcement I think over at Afek had membership at 300 members.
There are tons of F2s in the country, but most of them don't speak English. The amount of westerners marrying Koreans each year and staying in Korea wasn't all that high from one statistic I saw last year. Even fewer are getting F5s.
F4s on the other hand are much greater in number but I think as a group they typically have greater access to resources due to family connections, language ability and other things like that. |
