|
|
It is incredibly annoying. If I want to check my hotmail for a mere 10 seconds, hotmail will automatically sign me into messenger via some online application version of it (similar to facebook chat). If I have messenger open on my computer, it will boot me off that, and sign me into the online application version of it.
Key points here...
1) I have not figured out any way to get rid of the MSN messenger "feature" in hotmail. There looks like there is no option for it. If anyone here CAN find that option, I would be forever grateful...
2) I don't want 12 people messaging me when I'm quickly checking my email.
3) I don't want messenger (the one installed on my computer) to sign off when I'm simply checking my email for a moment.
Oh, this is incredibly annoying, and am thinking of finally getting rid of my hotmail account I've used for over 10 years.
Anyone else find this the worst ever idea hotmail has had? |

I use my old hotmail account as a dummy account. ie, if I sign up for something that I know will spam me, I use my hotmail. The new interface pisses me off because I only check it once a day, but now you have to click through to get to your inbox.
What you just described doesn't happen to me. I use meebo for that, but who uses IM these days anyway?
They will never compete with gmail. Why don't they just accept their status as surrogate spam box? |

OP, I have the same setup as you and that doesn't happen to me, although I seem to remember something similar happening on a friend's computer when he had a Window's Live Toolbar installed, so maybe it's that.
Senior, as superior as we know Gmail is, some of us have been usng Hotmail for over 10 years and it's not that easy to change. I have over 10,000 emails that I prefer to be able to access from the same place, and I like to be able to access my inbox as soon as MSN notifies me that I've got mail and go directly to that message, and yes, people still use IM these days. Also, you don't need to click through to your inbox, you can select to be sent there on login.
Having said that, 10MB attachment limits are annoying, as is the whole of Windows Live, Bing, etc. and I keep thinking I should start using the Gmail accounts I've had for years now, but never get around to it. |

Just turn MSN off in Hotmail under options. |

Download Gmail Notifier... Small application that'll pop up when you've got a new message |
